I never considered myself a "real" musician due to critical feedback from every angle my entire life. Because I use janky gear in unconventional ways. Or I don't know music theory. Or I let my sense of humor show. But I pride myself in following through with ideas regardless of criticism.

Reverse-engineering the gags in MAD Magazine's movie parodies to imagine what they were spoofing was the only way to "see" popular R rated films as a kid. It felt like I knew a lot of movies pretty well by the time I was old enough to actually watch them.
