Right, reintro post. My name is Cameron and I am a disabled game accessibility consultant and software developer from Wellington. I also help run the NZ Games Festival.

In my spare time I am also a composer, photographer, hobbyist game dev, and enthusiast home cook.

Here is my pet cat Marci
Being a life long Wellingtonian really has warped my understanding of what Spring is. During my time in springtime Melbourne, I have regularly found myself surprised by how nice the weather is. There somehow isn't any horizontal rain and swampy humid fog

If anyone at GCAP wants to come say hi. I am opposite room 110. It is comparitively very quiet here and it is air conditioned. I am probably not going to move for a while

This talk on handling the audio direction for a game about a cat is really good. But it is also making me really miss my silly little baby and I am so looking forward to giving her big hugs when I get home

It is a lovely day in Melbourne today and even though I am at a game audio conference, all I want to do is have a nap in the sun. I have my camera on me so I am not going to do that, but that lizard part of me is making it really hard to focus on anything else

I forgot to mention this, but I'm at Melbourne Games Week this year, so if you see me around and want to talk accessibility, audio, or obscure video games, feel free to say hi

Using AI for something so trivial is just sad. Here is one example that I fired off from the dome in like 2 seconds

"Sorry I am going to be late, I beat a time wizard in Scrabble and he stole 15 minutes of my life, what a sore loser"

Is it a 10/10 bit? No, but it's better than what an AI could do
Grounds for divorce imo

Question for those of you who watched the Summer Games Fest. Was there anything there worth checking out? Don't really want to watch the whole showcase and all I have learned from Bluesky is that someone wore an awful hat

The Switch 2 system transfer transfers licenses of games and whether those games are installed, but not the games themselves. The console will try and download all of them again. Sparing a thought for NZ's internet infrastructure right now

Visited a pinball arcade this evening, didn't realize just how seriously some people treat pinball.

Hearing loud thumps, swearing etc, while me who is mediocre at pinball and was just having fun hitting the balls was an experience.

I wonder if those people were still having fun

Well, I got put into a couple of starter packs and the influx of followers was intimidating, so I disappeared for 7 months. Oops.

I will do an intro post tomorrow as it is nearly 2am. Mostly putting this here for now for accountability reasons so it actually gets done and I don't change my mind.

Game accessibility tip: Don't refer to your options to reduce flashing etc as an epilepsy friendly mode. Not only is it a really vague name, but these features don't eliminate all risk and players can still have seizures playing your game. Name your feature after what it does (e.g. reduced flashing)

I have just learned that Bluesky has inbuilt mute and block lists. Yeah, I am not going back to twitter

Game accessibility tip: When making a game, it is most cost-efficient to start working on accessibility as soon as possible. Retrofitting accessibility into your nearly finished game is far more expensive and time consuming than building it to be as accessible as possible in the first place.

I am considering posting daily game accessibility tips. I was thinking about doing that on Twitter before Musk took over and now that I am posting on social media again, I might do that here

My "I am on bluesky" post on Twitter was liked pretty much immediately by someone who runs a blog on UFO sightings. Incredible

Also, I am at NZGDC this year, if you see me then feel free to say hi. I don't know how much longer I will be here, I am exhausted today and the thought of playing video games in bed is currently very appealing

This app is looking increasingly viable so I might start actually posting here. Will do the twitter cross follow thing probably tonight and probably never look back

Have now had a brief look around this place and it atm looks much more like what I would want from something like Twitter than Twitter itself. Didn't quite realise just how much bloat that site had until I joined here.
