The White Mts where we camp are at about 9200 ft above sea level. Prairies meet forested lands. The weather is cool and rainy (it’s rained every day since we got here). There is a lot of beautiful wildlife here.

This little cottontail has his/her den in this rotting log! After sitting very still while I watched, when I turned to leave, the rabbit quickly disappeared into the log!

Two edible desert offerings: the prickly pear fruit, and mesquite seeds. You can eat the fruit or turn it into syrups (like for prickly pear margaritas) and make a sweet flour from the mesquite tree seeds. Wild animals eat them too.
