People didn’t get paid, families didn’t eat, planes didn’t fly… all so that people can pay more for healthcare in the end. Good job Shaheen, King, Hassan, Kaine, Durbin, Fetterman, Cortez Masto and Rosen you all did it.

After six weeks of furloughs, discontinued benefits, and travel disruptions; after majority of people recognizing Trump is at fault; after the dem big wins last week… Democrats decided eh better to quit while we have the upper hand and settle for nothing.

The Senate has taken the first step to end the government shutdown after a group of moderate Democrats agreed to proceed without a guaranteed extension of health care subsidies.

I was at a coffee shop. Tapped my card. Forgot to complete the screen. Barista tipped herself 50% while I was in the restroom. 😐

Watching my friend help her son with his math homework as he slowly melts off the sofa in agony. The tone, the volume, the bargaining are universal and timeless.

This rat was far too casual about plucking a bat in flight. His ease is unsettling. I wonder if his friends and family have any idea that this is what he’s up to at night.

My friend’s 9 yr old: “what’s your job?”
Me: “same as your mom. I’m a professor.”
9: “where?”
Me: “Vassar.”
9: “Princeton is the best university.“

Another person who started down this path from the most “innocuous” advertised uses of ChatGPT: homework help. I have been struck by the cases of people getting lost in delusions after using this product for work or school: ie the use cases we are supposed to encourage as faculty.

I know this is pedantic, but Kim Davis was not "jailed for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses." She was jailed for contempt of court because she refused to follow a court order (she had stopped issuing all marriage licenses). NYT makes it sound like the Woke Police broke down her door.

Delayed two hours from LGA.
But yeah I guess the airports “appeared to be working largely normal” in that I paid $21 for a burrito.

From a PERMANENT extension of the subsidies and the repeal Medicaid cuts to… a one-year extension of expiring health care subsidies?!

Are you fucking kidding me? Let me in there, I once got an airline to buy me a train ticket to catch a diff flight during a snow storm. I can handle this one.

I just realized I have not seen a stretched earlobe since Obama was president. What happened? Did people have them removed and their lobes reconstructed?

I have no idea how saturated the AI market is in the private sector but… I imagine not saturated enough to get 100 of them to come teach.

This is fascinating because this is such a new field and somehow they are going to hire 100 tenure-track faculty in the next 5 years who specialize in it. And yet when asked to fill spots with faculty of color/women/marginalized groups, administrators often cry about how the pipelines don't exist.

The money is there for #SNAP. Trump is impeding court order to feed millions of people while continuing to pay for mass deportations.

1 in 8 families depend on SNAP. For the average person, by end of month, 95.5% of allowance is gone. These benefits are lifelines.

Withholding food from children, elderly, and disabled citizens as leverage to cut healthcare is some pretty diabolical shit. #SNAP needs to be fully restored.

Daylight saving ends tomorrow, so I will be daylight spending. I am going to go into daylight debt. I will probably have to declare daylight bankruptcy by the end of the month.

Don't see a way out of this apart from the strict legal regulation of all generative "AI". Everything needs to be labeled, the use of the likeness of real people (alive or dead) without their express consent needs to be libel (even in a labeled video), and the fines need to be ruinous.
Cuomo keeps embarrassing himself with AI slop ads.
