Recent study shows that opioids given in the ED for pain do NOT lead to addiction.
Addiction rate was about one quarter of 1%.
This is consistent with studies in chronic pain.
So why are we denying access to opioids for those who need them ?

In fact, the number of people who become addicted to opioids after being treated for pain is, once again, about 1 QUARTER of one percent. This is consistent across all large scale, recent studies
