Big news! We are recruiting a postdoc to work on tomatillo evolution: jobs.colorado.edu/jobs/JobDeta.... The clade containing tomatillos and its allies (ca 300 spp) has evolved lantern fruits at least 25 times - we want to know why! Join us @rociodeanna.bsky.social & @caschenck-bio.bsky.social

This is an awesome summary of @trinitydepatie.bsky.social 's new paper!!! Thanks @aidanwshort.bsky.social ! Check it out folks!!!!
Just want to shoutout a new study from the Wessinger Lab by my colleague @trinitydepatie.bsky.social. bsapubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/.... She investigated the repeated evolution of personate flowers within Penstemon by examining patterns of introgression, topological discordance, and

My favorite answer to a final exam question: What is one thing you learned in this semester* that you found interesting or surprising?

(*required Ecology and Evolution course for Bio majors)

"That I actually liked this course."

Check out the advance version of @trinitydepatie.bsky.social's first(!) paper on her VERY GROOVY personate penstemons!!!
The first chapter of my dissertation with @carriewessi.bsky.social is now available as a preprint!! Give it a read if you are interested in learning more about the evolutionary history of an EXTREMELY cool floral type called personate flowers!!

Our publication on the genomics of the firecracker penstemon is out. This was the result of a two-semester graduate class that I co-taught with David Jarvis. We wanted to sequence something meaningful to the western US, so we chose a penstemon species. doi.org/10.1093/jher...
Whole-genome assembly and annotation of the firecracker penstemon (Penstemon eatonii)
Abstract. The penstemons are ornamental annual flowering plants native to the Intermountain West and Rocky Mountains and commonly used for urban landscapin
