a slide showing the journey of going from a theoretical approach of gendered environments to research outputs and tools for practical change (aka more than medals). common challenges, mechanisms, and possible outcomes derived from interviews with retired women athletes and how they experienced gender discrimination in sport. the challenges include: stereotypes trivialize injury, physiology is all or nothing, the “ideal” female athlete, in/visible inequities, and uneven power dynamics. a group of conference attendees placed laminated cards that depict the challenges and mechanisms on the floor, trying to figure out how to remodel the research findings in a non-linear way. stephanie coen and joanne parsons stand beside a slide with discussion questions on it.
