Fun visual interpretations inspired by my vinyl collection
Roberta Flack exploded on the scene in 1969 - this album does not sound like a debut - this is a mature, fully formed artist announcing her arrival while tackling the issues of the day several years before Marvin Gaye or Sly Stone

Bruce has releases a new song tackling the sh*tstorm in Minneapolis - so glad he did this - no one better to bring humanity to the government murder of American citizens

I hope other key artists follow - Nina Simone said “It is an artist's duty to reflect the times."

While he successfully built a rabid following in his hometown of Detroit in the 60s - early 70s, Bob Seger had national ambitions

He felt a live album would highlight his terrific back-catalog, and show the raw powerhouse energy he brought to his concerts - mission accomplished!

Jethro Tull continues it's mid-to-late 70s folk/rock phase - and it is terrific!

It is surprising, but songs about mice, moths, horses, roosters (kind of...) can be pretty awesome 😁

The spirit and joy of Harry Chapin really shine on this live album from 1975

"Cat's in the Cradle" was based on a poem written by his wife about her ex-husband, but Harry really took it to heart about his relationship with his own son ‐ still a great song

only got 31 seconds with y'all...

Is that enough time to take in this EPIC Betty Davis hook from the song F.U.N.K.... well, I can't answer that

All i can do is recommend to go immediately to your music streaming service of choice - and click on this mf'er

You are welcome

Theatrical, dramatic, poetic - with more than a dash of "witchy-ness", Florence + The Machine is channeling the rage and trauma resulting from an unimaginably tragic event - she experienced a near-fatal ectopic miscarriage while onstage(!)

That would truly make anyone "Scream"

Adriano Celentano loved American music throughout the 60s as he built his career as an Italian rock star

He created this "gibberish" song based on how the popularity of American music consisted of the listeners not really understanding the lyrics.

The surprise... the song is a total banger!

Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" took the history of the Delta Blues (born of defiance), and reflects the true horrors of plantations, the KKK, cultural appropriation, among others - all backed by a glorious blues/irish folk/americana music soundtrack

A fun pickup from the recent Record Store Day - this is a comp of rare/hard to find pop songs from the late 1960s.

These are great(!) - just some psychedelic pop songs by bands that stuck to that 60s vibe as rock started taking over. Worth a listen if that is your jam.

Woody Guthrie was no fan of Fred Trump (Donald's father) - he saw his racist housing practices while staying at one of his Brooklyn buildings in the early 50s

"Old Man Trump" was written by Woody in 1954 - but he never recorded it. The pissed off lyrics weren't found until 2016(!)

This is just a big, fun rock record that brings the funk and the NOLA sound by a band that never really hit their deserved heights of popularity - playing it loud!

Strip away the wild clothes, the frequent run-ins with the law, the skits from Dave Chappelle's show.... you are left with an incredible musician that put out a 🔥 debut album.

One of the first albums I bought with my own money in 1981

The focus is on Rush's incredible 1977 - 1981 catalog, coming out the same year as "Moving Pictures" - "Closer to the Heart" sounds amazing, the drum solo on "YYZ" is epic... I continue to love this one 😁

Happy 81st Birthday Booker T. Jones!

He was a big fan of @thebeatles' "Abbey Road" when it came out in 1969 - then, less than a year after its release, he put out this organ-heavy mix of Soul, Jazz and Funk - it really stands on its own as a terrific listen

Turning this one up loud! 😁

Lynyrd Skynyrd captured at the peak of their powers over a three day run in Atlanta. A favorite of mine, and feel it is one of the top live rock albums the 70s produced - and that is a stacked category!

Rock on, all!

It was Etta's final album with Chess, so reviewers felt there was a bit of "get me out of here" vibe - but this is Etta doing funk with a socially concsience bent... which I find awesome! 😁

Welcome, boils and ghouls, to another spine-tingling review! Tonight’s horrifying hit is a graveyard smash of ghoulish grooves and sinister synths!

Carpenter’s music is sharper than a machete on prom night - minimal, menacing, and marvelously macabre!

Enjoy kiddies... heh heh heh 💀

Awesome 1963 horrorfest from the ever creative folks at Famous Monsters - a magazine I read growing up that fueled my love of horror films

A kitchy radio play with great voice acting. Side one is a Frankenstein's Monster story, and side two with Dracula

Happy Halloween All!

"That song isn't mine anymore." - Trent Reznor on "Hurt"

So grateful for these Johnny Cash/Rick Rubin "American" series albums for providing a send-off worthy of a legend

Lou Reed was fiercly angry at the state of America, as reflected in this brutal takedown of the 80s Reagan era

AIDS, consumerism/capitalism, NRA, pollution, Trump, racism - all addressed in densely packed, pissed off lyrics that result in an evergreen protest album.

Tis' the season! 🎃

An excellent Halloween themed album from Duran Duran - spinning it as well as the recently released "expansion" album (from Record Store Day) quite a bit these weeks to get into the spirit!
