Anyone who thinks there is even a competition between the hyper-costly F-35 and any Gripen is pretending to be German in 1941.
Sherman's could easily be holed by German tanks, but here's the problem. An F-35 requires days or weeks of maintenance. A Gripen does not.

The US government is broken. Those checks and balances mentioned repeatedly like a mantra proving how perfect the system is amounted to nothing when a real threat emerged.
