Camp Read-a-Rama is proud to celebrate the work of @vashtiharrison.bsky.social --the first African American Woman to win the Caldecott Medal. Harrison won the medal in 2024 for her book Big, and is the fifth Black Caldecott Medal winner.

Let's celebrate Carole Weatherford! She started writing at age 6 and has since won 2 NAACP Image Awards and 18 ALA Youth Media Awards such as a Newbery Honor, Loretta Scott Kind Award, and 4 Caldecott Honors. Her books feature stories from Black history, and her words continue to inspire.
