Another brilliant essay from @eryk.bsky.social, this time he writes the history of ChatGPT against the backdrop of mass loneliness and social distance. This history is still unfolding and the signs are not encouraging for where we are headed.
What was ChatGPT? Now nearly three years old, we can look at OpenAI's LLM as a product of its time, optimized ever since to its earliest uses. While this period of deep disorientation and social isolation has been obscured from public memory, it remains embedded within the interface.

I was at a non- English conference this week and I was alarmed at the number of times I heard “I asked Chat GPT” from people who are in social movements and community work. Are these very important debates about the impact of this tech surfacing beyond English first communities?

As soon as I heard Peter Thiel was doing lectures about the Antichrist, I figured it was time to talk with @gilduran.com again — and he did not disappoint.

This is a great conversation not just about the Antichrist talk, but the broader project of Thiel and his fellow tech billionaires.
Peter Thiel is obsessed with the Antichrist — but what does he actually mean when he talks about it?

This week @gilduran.com joins @parismarx.com to discuss how Thiel casts his enemies as the Antichrist to distract from Silicon Valley’s anti-human project.

TRUMP: surely they ate him

MAMDANI: Here's the part where it gets a little Broadway: they didn't
