Or they could have just let this beautiful fish live.

Ice fishing has always struck me as so cruel. The fishes don’t even get one season where they aren’t being terrorized by trophy hunting (which is what this is).

Today we learned the feds spent $6.8M to kill the ostriches. This includes $2.3M in staff time & $1.3M to lawyers. To kill HEALTHY birds.

Imagine how many animals could have been helped if the feds simply gave this cash to farmed animal sanctuaries.

Fishing is the largest massacre of wildlife anywhere on our planet, and fishing gear is the largest contributor to plastic pollution in the oceans. Meanwhile fish farms are horribly cruel and polluting.

No one should be eating more fishes.

Thank you so much for your advocacy. It's really frustrating to get so little response. Our legislators need to do better!

I was up early to join David Common on CBC's Metro Morning! We talked about Ontario's move to ban cosmetic surgeries on pets like cat declawing, ear cropping, and debarking. Good news, but slicing off dogs' tails should also be banned.

It is such a puzzle that many politicians are so slow to take up better legal protections for animals. Polls consistently show that the public demands better than unregulated factory farms, shoddy roadside zoos, and brutal experiments on animals!

We are so close to the Star Trek promise of a universal translator!

I'm grateful to @lindamcquaig.bsky.social for reminding us of the animals that many forget. Factory farms are almost completely unregulated in Canada and are free to abuse animals in horrible ways. In 2026, let's change this.

NEW op-ed from our ED @camillelabchuk.bsky.social: St. Joseph’s Hospital is ending dog experiments after our exposé. Premier Doug Ford has promised new laws to ban dog & cat experiments—but we also need federal leadership & funding for #CrueltyFree alternatives.
Closing St. Joseph’s dog lab is a victory — but it’s just the beginning
Ontario must pass new laws, and the federal government should fund the alternatives we need. It’s time for Canada to join the growing list of countries moving beyond animal experiments altogether.
