Blog 3: Developing a Network of Support and Asking for Help You Don’t Have to Do It Alone: Building a Menopause Support Network LET’S EXPLORE Social connection can buffer against menopause-related stress, depression, and stigma (Avis et al., 2022). Yet many women report feeling isolated, unsupported, or embarrassed to ask for help—especially at work. Peer support groups, online communities, and workplace networks have been shown to reduce anxiety and improve quality of life during menopause (Hickey et al., 2022).

Blog 1: You and Your Partner Together Through Change: Strengthening Your Partnership During Menopause LET'S EXPLORE Menopause brings physical and emotional changes that ripple through a relationship. Fluctuating hormone levels can lead to irritability, mood swings, low libido, fatigue, and sleep disturbances—all of which can affect intimacy and communication (NHS, 2023). Partners often feel uncertain or helpless, unsure of how to respond.

BLOG 4: Menopause and Cake 🎂 Have Your Cake 🎂 (and Arteries, Too): Indulgence & Heart Health in Midlife LET’S EXPLORE Menopause increases cardiovascular risk due to lower oestrogen. At the same time, sugar and processed fats found in cakes, cookies, and pastries can spike blood sugar, raise LDL cholesterol, and promote inflammation. But joy and celebration matter too. Denying yourself completely can create guilt and rebound cravings.

Blog 3 - Menopause and Diet Fuelling the Change: How to Eat for Energy, Hormones, and Strength LET’S EXPLORE Your metabolism is changing. So are your energy needs, bone health demands, and hormonal rhythms. This isn’t a time to restrict, it’s a time to nourish deeply. Oestrogen influences how your body stores fat, maintains muscle, manages blood sugar, and regulates inflammation.

Blog 2: Generational Support A Generational Network: How Family Can Support Menopause LET’S EXPLORE Menopause affects the whole family, not just the individual going through it. Intergenerational understanding reduces stigma and increases support (Harding et al., 2019). Yet cultural silence often leaves women isolated or unsupported, particularly by younger family members. Intergenerational conversations—whether between daughters and mothers or grandmothers and teens—can foster empathy, build resilience, and normalize bodily change (Hunter & Rendall, 2007).

October is Menopause Awareness Month 🌍
Throughout this month, I’ll be sharing a series of short daily vlogs (just one minute each) to raise awareness and encourage open conversation about menopause. This is a more stripped-back approach for me—sharing simple, direct messages in video format. The focus for this year is lifestyle medicine and how it can support women’s health and wellbeing during the menopause transition. My aim is to spark dialogue, share insights, and help reduce the stigma that still surrounds this important topic.
