I love that after all these years Photoshop still has legacy Save for Web. My go-to every time (and really the only need I have for it).

We are now grandparents of the sweetest angel who arrived two weeks ago. Our first. We flew into Utah to meet her this weekend.

Chiefly Design issue № 02 just dropped.

→ "Should Design Be Measured?"
→ Yes and no. This is the only correct answer.
→ NPS is terrible for measuring design. But if your org loves NPS, how you can leverage it in your favor.
→ Great design is a function of bad ideas.
Should Design Be Measured?
Yes and no. This is the only correct answer. Let's unpack this.

New newsletter drops next week!

I'll save "Why Substack" for later. Short answer is Kit, Ghost, etc are fantastic. But for now Substack is the right start, with my site as the newsletter home later (likely powered by one of those).

Hope to say hello in your inbox soon. ✌🏼

If we are to successfully address the riptide that is political violence—whether the use of a hammer, firearm, you name it—we must also address the undercurrent of seemingly "harmless" yet demeaning, berating verbal abuse of one's character when they choose to speak out on issues we disagree with.

New newsletter WIP. This has been a long time coming.

Willing to bet my career on this: When the AI dust settles there will remain an evergreen need for taste & style at the hands of a professional, the ability to judge with your gut, methodical work at a slower pace, typographic mastery, and so much more that we do as designers.

One of the feedback themes I'm most proud of as a manager over the years:

"I feel calmer when I'm around you."

Tech doesn't value calmness. But I do.

Translation: If we're working together, we will find ways to achieve high-quality, accelerated outcomes in a measured way.

Unapologetically.

New week, fresh sheet. Last month, @cameronmoll.bsky.social was kind enough to send me some of his do-its sticky task pads to try out. They've completely replaced the assorted post-its that usually litter my desk.

Really pleased with how this presentation came together for a group of UX students this week. And now I'm sharing it with all of you (including the colophon).
10 More Things I Wish Every Design Student Knew - Cameron Moll
Recently I gave a presentation to UX university students building on 10 Things shared years ago, and now I'm sharing it with you. You'll find most of these principles apply not only to students but al...

What do you wish they knew?

Hey Apple, this Messages shortcut would be super helpful. Too many taps otherwise when someone asks "do you have their number".

I love the idea of products baking mental health and mindfulness into the fabric of software. Not just lip service, but explicit design principles backed up by real, tangible features. blogs.opera.com/news/2025/02...

The things we create affects our users' wellbeing. Let's make that a real concern!
Opera introduces Opera Air – a new browser built to make you feel better
Opera Air is the first web browser built around the concept of mindfulness and designed to make you feel better while browsing the web.

In 10+ years that we've taught these principles to our children and others, we've found that following these brings peace and self-mastery. Ignoring these leads to heartache, regret, and painful recovery.

They aren't perfect. But they've proven to be very effective. (Most of them for adults, too.)

I'm loving using "DO-ITS" notes by @cameronmoll.bsky.social. They're simple, Post-It notes that you fill out each morning to focus on your key daily tasks. Very effective. shop.cameronmoll.com/product/do-its

Apologies as this will sound like a subtle marketing play, but would you mind hitting up do-its.co and seeing if it forwards properly to my shop? Seems to be stalling for some people (myself included).

There is a pervasive mindset across most of tech that if you are not being pushed hard by your manager—or pushing yourself hard—you are underperforming.

I've spent much of my career pushing back against this narrative. Most days it feels like a finger in the dam.

Not once have I regretted it.

I've pondered how to say this without sounding self-righteous and I'm afraid it will regardless.

Streaming services seem to have a blank check on the F-word. Because of this I've stayed on the sidelines as popular shows have come & gone.

Maybe you need to hear this to know others are out there.

Launching another physical product today reminds me how much I appreciate producing physical goods as an offset to all the digital work we do.

Few things are as rewarding as holding the thing you've carefully crafted.
