This is grim news and a direct result of the terrible decisions made by the Province in 2024 that increased the toxic drug supply and closed safe consumption sites. The Premier was told this would happen, by the Auditor General no less, and did it anyway. #HamOnt www.thespec.com/news/hamilto...
Hamilton sets new record for opioid overdose calls — again
Between January 2017 and 2025, the monthly overdose call average was 44.89. January 2026 more than tripled that

I've heard from residents in the Central and North End neighbourhoods about an strong odour coming from the area around Bayfront Park. While I can't be sure what it is, I've heard from many, including some experienced environmentalists, who tell me it's coming from the CN shunting yard. #HamOnt

There's been a lot of discussion about Council lunches lately. I think it's worth unpacking some of what's happening and why. As someone who has never participated in the Council meal program, and can clearly afford to buy my own lunch or brown bag it, I agree we should get rid of it. #HamOnt

Reminder that we're running our Ward 2 Community Grants program differently this year (due to the municipal election). If you're applying in 2026, please get your application in before March 7. You can apply and learn more at ward2hamilton.ca/grants. #HamOnt
We'll be running our Ward 2 Community Grants program differently in 2026. Rather than accepting applications at the start of each quarter, we’ll be accepting one large round of applications between January 12 and March 6. Apply and get more information at ward2hamilton.ca/grants. #HamOnt

Today, in a vote of 14-1, Council supported my motion to continue business recycling until the end of the year without raising 2026 taxes. Thanks to my seconder, Councillor @nrindernann.bsky.social, and BIAs and businesses from across the City for reaching out with your concerns. It matters. #HamOnt

This chilly week, we are taking a quick look back at tobogganing! During the 1880s, tobogganing was a craze in Hamilton. Two large wooden slides were built at the foot of the escarpment by The Victoria Toboggan and Snowshoe Club and The Hamilton Toboggan and Snowshoe Club. #HamOnt

I've heard from some North Enders with questions about the reopening of the Bennetto Recreation Centre after its recent use as a temporary emergency warming centre during temperatures up to -30 degrees Celsius (with the windchill). Here's an update based on information from City staff. #HamOnt

For those who’ve been watching the Council discussion, people do indeed cycle in the winter. Here’s my short chilly commute to work today. I even saw Councillor Cassar’s bike when I got here! Enjoy it out there if you can. It’s a beauty. #HamOnt

This chilly week, we're looking back at the Blizzard of 1898. December 4 started off mild, looking like rain, "The railway whistles had a mournful tone, too, but they always do before a rainstorm". By evening, however, snow began to fall and stick, "for it was of the clinging variety". #HamOnt
