Hello to all my new followers :),

Who am i ?

I am a astrophysicist turned indie game-dev working on two projects at the moment.
I have some progress to show on the island decorations. I used some models from @kenney.nl Pirate Kit which I retextured.

The end goal would be for players to explore the island. What is something unexpected you would like to find there?

I love animation player in combination with the movie maker mode in #godot.

Spent the day making this boss présentation animation for the players when they first encounter it.

Now to code the actual encounter 🫣

What is your favorite boss mechanic in action rogue-likes ?

Looking for some music recommandations to put in the background while I code,

What are in your opinion the most underrated indie game soundtracks ?

Are gifs allowed for #screenshotsaturday ? 🤔

I've been working on a dynamic world for Tales of Eight where the factions can expand, fight and trade with each other.

If two factions are fighting, will you take sides or let them be while trading with both ?

The UI for the shop is progressing from sketch to game implementation. There are still some decoration parts missing but I am quite happy with the shark (even if I spent more time than I should have on the model).

What should I name him ?

For #screenshotsaturday i have a mock-up of what the store UI could look like.

The wanted poster on the right will change as your piracy renown increases, it will also help you find other pirates to fight.

What other animals can I draw next ?

Back to working on my pirate game and I've been playing around with different texture filters to give it a more painted look. Quite happy with the result.

What look do you like in games ?

So much learnt in a day, I wanted to improve my naive implementation for enemy chasing to make it more natural.

I started with using #godot 's navigations system with Bezier curves, then found out about steering behaviors and finally implemented context steering which works like a charm.

Spend some time last drawing a few weapons for my game in the style of Mignola.

Loved working with the ink/watercolour combo, still have a lot to understand about shadows.

Voici ma tentative en aquarelle avec un papier pas adapté.

Avec tout les petits détails je me suis bien amusé :)

I wanted to add a little french touch to my game, so I added a animated pharmacy sign for the healing spot :)

One satisfying part of coding is when I refactor game jam code to make it more streamlined.

Is the game more efficient ? Will the end user notice ? Nope

Does it give me a sense of inner peace ? I have reached peak coding nirvana.

What is a little coding thing that sparks joy for you ?

Gamedev is weird sometimes, working on a snail themed train and wagons.

How can I make it more "snaily" ?

After coding shaders for a few days here is a sneak peek of an animated boat for my future pirate inspired game.

Next step is to progress on the gameplay 🫣

What do you think the gameplay will be ? Let me know what you think.

This weekend I sketched a few characters and boats for a game prototype.

What animal should I try to do next ?

And what would their boat look like ?

I've been playing around with #defold recently and I made a 2d isometric flipping animation for a prototype and I am quite happy with the results.

In your opinion how does the art/animation look ?

Went from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. Would you sign a contract for your soul with him ?

Made a Belle Epoque style poster for a game prototype. I took inspiration from Art Nouveau but tried to give my own style using Inkscape.

Would this style work for game assets ?

Spent some of my evening making this little fox character in blender following Chiro Fujita's example (80.lv/articles/spl...). Should I try and do the whole body ?
