Here’s a moment from the inside.

Betrayal at Krondor left a bigger mark on me than most games.
Big enough that Saregnar owes its existence to it.

New year, new work.
Starting on a proper road-placement tool.

I really need medieval-ish road textures now... should probably go on a road trip.

I want the world to feel like it exists whether the player is there or not.

There’s still a lot to do, but the foundations are solid now. That makes everything else easier.

Looking into starting the overhauled roads over the festivities.
The terrain overlay experiment paid off, which means:
A) better visuals
B) faster progress

Win-win for a micro-sized team.

Due to popular demand, I’m removing all AI from my game.
The downside is you’ll also have to move the enemies in combat. Fair’s fair.

Most terrain tiles are now renamed and cleaned up. Roads are next.

I added the first terrain overlay as well – a simple farmable field. It’s the basis for how roads will work too, with skirts, free rotation, and faster level building.

📜 Character lore: Hewan Teomar

Youngest son of a noble house, Hewan chose forests and quiet study over titles and courtly games. Gifted in magic and guided by the gods, he seeks understanding over power.

I’m not building Saregnar to be fast.

It’s meant to be explored at your own pace, with time to notice things.

Saregnar is coming together slowly because people supported it early and gave me the time to build it properly.

This is the setup I use while working on Saregnar. I’ve been tuning it over the years to make long dev sessions a bit easier.
Show me your battlestations. What does your workspace look like? What makes your gamedev time smoother?

Older RPGs didn’t need to signal maturity. They assumed it.
Depth came from consequence and restraint, from trusting the player. Not from shock value.
Seriousness doesn’t always need to announce itself.

📜 Lore snippet:
Merrentar diverts an unusually large portion of state funds into its intelligence service.
They call themselves the Owls, reporting through Talons to a single hidden master known only as the Owl.
