i've rediscovered my old friend, the point light. i went hard on spot lights after i figured out the it was the point lights that were causing banding/shadow artifact issues in my earlier shots... but now it's back and making an impact. at least for me. four lights here; two spots, one area, and one point. i'm REALLY happy with how this turned out.

recently i've been feeling very... meh... about my shots. not sure what it is, but it's just been a little bit harder for me to find something i'm really excited about posting. so i tried to simplify, and did some really basic one light shots. i found things that i WAS excited about in each of the different light tests i used... so i figured fuck it, i'll mash them all into one image and see what happens. i'm pretty sure i could have gotten something similat using multiple lights, but i had fun with this... and that's a win i'm happy to take no matter how i came across it.

to be fair... you can really do a lot with three lights. i just wish vanilla had a BIT more control/options when if comes to lights and placement. it was a fun challenge, and i'm happy to see that everything i've been learning is, umm, backwards compatible? >_<

this picture too a lot out of me. i'll avoid the mini rant, but i've been in my head a WHOLE lot recently over my shots, and this one was almost a breaking point. long story short, i wasn't happy with it, tried to recreate it, hated that one, came back to this one and did my best to make my edits in photoshop. it worked out, i hope, but honestly i'm enjoying the patch break as an excuse to not feel like i have to gpose.

i've always loved playing with how shadows fade off into the nothingness of a black background, but there's a whole other thing about wearing black clothes and trying to pick out the detail while still having the figure read well. i enjoy the challenge though, and i definitely feel i'm getting better at it. ;3
