I don't love the secret lair online shopping experience, so getting stuff on the spot in person has been awesome.

I think games should be way more judicious about using increased enemy HP as a difficulty modifier. If the moment-to-moment isn't interesting or challenging enough, this often just reads "everything takes longer."

I like to tell myself I would have a more stylish wardrobe if so much of it wasn't dedicated to work clothes but I don't know if I'm really that brave

my cold take is that metroidvanias should be a lot more generous with fast travel once you have 100% map completion, maybe even sooner

which save file is worse to come back to after a long break: a story game where you don't remember what's going on, or a challenging game where you don't remember the controls?

I got a Hobonichi Techo Weeks Mega (I am calling it my sushi book) to do some light journaling/doodling. It's fun so far! I really want to try doing an entry every day this year.

Maybe over a decade ago I remember hearing a story (maybe a Day9 video?) about a Starcraft pro who would practice in all sorts of conditions like chair too high/low, room too hot/cold, while tired, etc. just to be mentally prepared for it happening at tournaments. I still think about that a lot.

I'm always craving new gadgets (currently thinking about an e-reader), but I'm going crazy with how many charging cables and outlets I'm using already.

Those critical thoughts about Revita/Binding of Isaac/Enter the Gungeon that I wanted to post, condensed:
It's cool that these games have secrets and puzzles, but less cool when it makes you do weird little dances like bombing walls based on an opaque set of rules or attacking walls in every room.

I wrote down some critical thoughts about some of the gameplay design philosophy shared by Revita/Enter the Gungeon/Binding of Isaac, but now that I'm proofreading I'm losing my conviction about these opinions. Ultimately they're just my opinions, so I'll still post them as soon as I format them.

My resolution for the third year running is to keep being more honest with myself. It's slow and it's tough, but it's continuing to be worth it.

Fantastic game, highly recommended if you're into arcade-style twin stick shooters. If you enjoyed Assault Android Cactus, I think you'll enjoy this too.

The plan was to play more of my backlog and indie games but I think it's just gonna be FF16 for most of the weekend. I think I can wrap up P5R while I'm at it.

shoutout to games that can be played while watching something on another screen (not you, Dustforce)

Starting a long-term thread of neat little indie games I enjoy on Steam as I come across them. I have a lot of great older ones in my library that could be their own thread, but I want to shout out newer ones starting with this one-button puzzle platformer:
