Hi! I make really cool messes with paper, paint and dye and then stitch it into handmade journals and books.

I'd love to find other mixed-media artist types who enjoy bookbinding, eco-printing, suminagashi, collage, encaustic, moody-grunge, the PNW, rain, mountains, moss and mushrooms.
Welcome!

You may not know the word but you've probably seen it in action. Creativity with a Purpose Art has always been a powerful way to communicate, inspire, and connect. Artivism—a blend of "art" and "activism"—is about using creativity to express ideas, spark conversation, or bring awareness to meaningful topics. But it doesn’t have to be loud, political, or confrontational. Sometimes, small, heartfelt expressions can create the most impact.

Uhhh, hi! It's me, Bookshop.org, a place to buy books online where every purchase financially supports indie bookstores instead of some billionaire.

I'm just going to (re)post this whenever I need to remind myself. Maybe it'll help you too?

1. Focus on things in your control & take ONE action there.

2. Limit your inputs. You can't help if you're paralyzed.

Some close-ups of my last suminagashi session. They are very rorschach-like in that I often see thing/shapes in them, such as tree rings or topographic lines.

My last batch looked like entrails or insect trails in wood. Maybe because I'm feeling gutted?

In the Studio

I've begun playing with more suminagashi papers - playing with paper types, ink colors and methods. I just received and order of japanese papers I can't wait to try out too. Expect to see some new bundles in the shop sometime in February.

End of the year decompress

Holidays are over and the mad crush is done. As a business owner it's doubly crazy. I've been preparing for Christmas since August! Now it's time to breathe deeply, slow down and do...nothing? Well, not nothing but I'm giving myself time to work on personal projects, not…

Well, not nothing but I'm giving myself time to work on personal projects, not business ones, such as these beautiful journals taught by Liz Constable of Book Arts Studio and Ali Manning of The Handmade Book Club.

Adorable little mushrooms, pillowy moss and crusty lichens. I never tire of nature's vignette.

Being prepared kind of takes the fun out of power outages. And a gas fireplace for the win.
