The lair was quiet. For once, everyone was asleep at the same time. Even Don had given up on doing some projects after being forced to drink decaf instead of real coffee. By that Adam meant he found him promptly passed out on the floor in front of his battle shell. It didn’t help that, despite being extremely late in the winter, they were currently in the middle of a bone chilling coldwave, and the garage couldn’t be heated, making them groggy and prone to naps. Adam had gently wrapped him around twice as many bedsheets in Don’s tall bed to make sure he wouldn’t get sick. It was a few hours before the end of that calm and quiet night that they were suddenly interrupted by a loud BANG! In less than a few seconds, everyone was awake and on high alert. Adam positioned himself in front of his room, acting like a barrier for his little one, while Mickey and Raph had both launched into the corridor, weapons swirling in their hands. Leo was already somehow on the first floor, and Don wasn’t far behind him. “What, what?” Mickey asked. Adam grasped his wakizashi firmly in his hands, scanning the area everywhere he could. The lair was once again calm, but he didn’t trust it anymore “Someone attackin’?” Raph asked with a scowl as he surveyed the area. “It came from the laundry room.” Leo pointed out. The laundry room? Then it wasn’t an enemy? Or was someone somehow attacking from the laundry room of all places?

Adam was jumping from rooftop to rooftop. He’d finally set up to do what he’d been meaning to do for a few months now. As he was exploring the familiar town, he could almost forget that he was completely alone that night. Cars honked in the distance, a small accident making people angry about being a few minutes late. Adam tried to ignore it in favor of the clearer sky than usual. The air was chilly, but he’d been told this would most likely be the last cold wave before spring would arrive. Mickey was extremely excited for it, and kept rambling about it at each occasion. “You’ll see, there’s gonna be flowers everywhere, and it’s gonna be warmer, and the birds will be singing, we can’t hear them from the lair but they’re still gonna be singing, and I can’t wait for easter’s chocolate, and…” He was only disappointed that they’d never been able to return to the farm while the lake was iced over, but considering how much Adam always slipped on even the thinnest layer of it, it probably was for the better. Some noise behind him made him jump. Oh, it was just a squirrel running on one of the electric cables. He sighed in relief. He really should stop getting so nervous about anything and everything. He’d lived through so much in that city, it should’ve made him less nervous about the normal stuff. Or maybe more nervous. He wasn’t quite sure. Humans were walking and talking below him, unaware of his presence as he lurked through the shadows. In the distance, the river water shined, just as lovely as usual, even if Adam now knew how cold and smelly it really was up close. City lights were flickering, reflecting through the snow and the waves. Adam’s breaths were coming out in small puffs of warmth, the only sign that he was there. He continued his journey. Despite the building stress in him, he didn’t want to give up yet. He’d barely been outside for… forty one minutes. Shell, he hadn’t even lasted an hour.

The mission was set. All contingency plans had been thought of. All that was missing was the target. Adam stared from the second floor as the elevator door opened. His tiny but important sidekick in hand, he used all the stealth in the world to spy on his red banded target, who was heading for the stairs. Everything was going according to plan. “Waff!” His sidekick shouted. Traitor! Abort, abort! Mission’s step one: stealth, was a bust! He dashed inside the target’s room, disappearing in the shadows before his target could even lift his head towards them. Confused, his target hummed questioningly, carefully climbing the steps as he tried finding the source of the mysterious baby voice he’d heard. Adam slid behind the dark room’s door, his treacherous sidekick still safely in his arms. She was lucky she was so darn cute. Their target walked in front of the room. Adam made sure his sidekick would remain quiet this time as he waited for him to get inside. Before he did, however, his target turned around. He headed to the last bedroom of the corridor, and Adam was almost found when he then returned to his room, a finger scratching his head and his bandana tails fluttering around as he looked left and right to the available bedrooms around him. Finally, his target took a step inside the right bedroom. Then another. And another. As soon as the lights were flipped open, Adam pounced! He jumped at Raph, who instantly backed away, sais appearing almost miraculously in his hands. Before he could attack, however, Adam rushed forwards, almost squishing the baby turtle sidekick as he wrapped his available arm around his target. And thus, operation ‘give a hug to Raph' was a major success!

“Now… what to do with you…” He wondered, eyeing the room for any idea. What he found instead was a rabbit already chewing on the blueprint he’d been working on as his lab door had been left wide open. “Ah! Mayhem, no!” He quickly scolded, rushing to him. He pulled the paper out of his mouth with his free hand before picking him up. Mayhem grunted disapprovingly, squirming in his arms to get free. “Ack! Mayhem, stop wiggling. I’m gonna drop you.” Don tried. “Bunny!” Ellie realized, reaching for him from his other arm and unbalancing everyone even more. Don left the room as fast as possible, placing them on the floor before they could all crash down. He closed the lab door so they wouldn’t crawl back in, slumping onto it. He’d only been babysitting Ellie for all of two minutes and he already almost had her fall and hurt herself. Tonight was not going to be a good night… “It’s all your fault.” He told the rabbit, poking at his head. Mayhem licked his finger. “Aah, don’t be cute now.” He told him with a smile.

The sound of a baby laughing excitedly in the kitchen of all places caught Mike’s attention. At first, he ignored it, as the latest boss in his video game stole more of his attention. But, as the gigglings kept increasing in volume, his curiosity was finally picked enough to go check it out. He paused his game and made his way into the room. He probably could use a snack too, so double the reason. “Whaaaaat are you doing?” He asked Raph as he entered the room. “I’m makin’ a pizza.” Raph replied. In front of him, on the counter, was Ellie, currently in the process of being rolled and gently squished around, much to her amusement. Mike raised an eye ridge at the scene. “Are you rolling the dough?” He asked. “‘Cause it kinda looks a bit hard. Did you put in too much flour?” “Nan, see, s’squishy ‘nough.” Raph answered. He poked at the sides for emphasis, making her squirm around to try and swipe the mean hands away. “Aaah, I see. My bad.” Mike grinned. “I just didn’t realize you were making a pizza with hamburger buns. See, you got the top bun here and the bottom bun there.” He said, tickling her carapace and plastron and making her giggle. “But what exactly are you doing?” He wondered. “Leo bet I wouldn’t be able ta make Ellie have more fun than with him.” Raph explained. “No way am I lettin’ Lame-o-nardo win on this.” “Aaah, of course.” Mickey replied. “What’d he do?” “He moped da floor with her.”

“Aah!” Mickey yelped, loud enough that Ellie twitched with a soft whine. “Oh, sorry, Ellie.” He quickly apologized. He then turned towards Leo, an angry face in place and an even angrier finger pointing at him. “But you. I hope you weren’t about to cook.” He warned him. Leo rolled his eyes. So little trust in him. “I was just looking if there was anything for her.” “No! Nan-an, no way!” Mickey denied avidly. “Not even the microwave.” “And here I thought I was supposed to be the leader around here.” Leo joked. “Sorry bro, but it’s a safety hazard.” Mickey denied. “What’s a safety hazard?” Don asked, heading straight for the coffee machine. “Leo. He was about to cook.” Mickey told him. “I was just going to reheat this.” Leo insisted. “I would’ve put it just one or two minutes. I’d have been careful.” “Dude, those only need like thirty seconds and they’d be steaming hot.” Mickey pointed out. “I didn’t want to bother you just for this.” Leo told him. “That wouldn’t bother me.” Mickey shook his head. “You know what would’ve?
