“The green stripe” by Henri Matisse in 1905. Matisse did this portrait of his wife and was criticized for using a stripe of green down her face. This was a subjective use of color which critics said he chose to make her ugly. #art #history #fineart #painting #illustration #matisse #france #french

This is my own version of “Judith with the head of Holofernes” this story is about an israelite widow, holding the severed head of the Assyrian general Holofernes after she kills him to save her people. I based my piece off of Cristofano Allori’s Judith. #artist #history #illustration #spontaneous

I am very happy about this one. Let me know what you think. The Greek key pattern is iconic to Ancient Greek illustrations. Ancient Rome and Byzantine empires had similar designs as well.
