then man who stepped into richard hell's shoes in television, making the band far less chaotic but a whole lot more "musical." later a vintner & animating presence at the great jones.

rec of the day: DAN MELCHIOR "reveries" (cudighi LP) unlike any other rec i know in dan's massive discography. slurping instrumentals for guitar and electric organ, almost in the style of those oddball lounge records tom verlaine used to love. bodacious!

RIP JOHNNY LEGEND
not always my cup of tea, but a genuine freak & proud of it. the premier of his film, "my breakfast with blassie" was the last time i saw andy kaufman on this earth. sending love to johnny's sister, lynn, another stone bad-ass of a different sort

rec of the day: BILL ORCUTT "another perfect day" (palilalia LP) solo at cafe oto in '23. tom carter's description of it as "punk rock" is correct, inasmuch as the attack is well-chopped & moves forward organically, but it's still quite melodic and groovy

RIP UNCLE FLOYD

floyd was one of the real underground heroes of the nyc metro area. his approach was to take the early 60s kids show tv format and apply it to the punk era, and it worked like crazy.

rec of the day; HARVEY MILK "WhaRvEy milK" (chunklet LP) live on WREK in '94, this is some damn sweet sludge from this athens trio in the days when they were still a singles band. slo-mo genius in the raw, the band was far more than "the melvins of the south."
