I’m going to say one more general thing about social media and then I’m going to take my own advice and buzz off.
It’s a good idea to mute anybody — no matter how much you respect and like them — whose coping mechanisms for the next few weeks aren’t compatible with yours.

I’m seeing a lot of yard for down-ballot Republican candidates but not a lot for the top of the ticket. I wonder who they’re voting for for president. It’s a mystery.

Countless Americans face the hardships that Kristof describes and don't lose their capacity for empathy or sense of reality. People going through hard times deserve great compassion, but if you're a racist, a fantasist, or a hatemonger, your backstory is not a shield protecting you from criticism.
No more etiquette lessons from op-ed columnists, please, especially those with absolutely no stakes in the outcome of this election.
