To my fellow introverts heading out into the wonderfully social #aar #aarsbl24 #sblaar24 conference, remember: we got this!

Most people are kind, willing to hear about your research, and happy to make connections.

At the age now where I won’t travel without my heating pad.

Won’t be long until it’s bananas and prune juice.

“Where you headed?”

Me: “Going to a religious studies conference.”

“Oh, are you a pastor?”

Me: “No, I study the cultural history of religion….”

“But do you want to be a pastor? Why else would you study religion?”

If I know @thornthewitch.bsky.social like I think I do, hecklers will be welcome.
It’s #sblaar24 time! My panel is at 12:30 on Sunday, CC 7B, and I’ll be using Deleuze and notions of religion as a means of state regulation to think about contemporary witchcraft as “secular” instead of the usual “nature religion.” Relevant for folks interested in contemporary Paganism or NRMs.

Thankful to my parter who’s holding the fort down with our 2 small kids while I head to San Diego #aar #sblaar24 for the conference. I promise I won’t have any fun.

Presenting at 12:30 on Monday at #sblaar24 #aar in the Philosophy of Religions Unit. My paper: “Affect Theory, Noise, & Rhythms of Resistance in 1819 New Orleans.” This unit will discuss the relationship between music and philosophy, and various methodological issues that arise from the comparison

Yes, let’s go. Kindness for the win.
Gearing up for #AARSBL24? My one piece of advice:
Everyone is smart. Distinguish yourself by being kind.

So stoked to presenting at both #NAASR @naasr.bsky.social and #aar this coming religious studies conference season. If Sound Studies and its applications in religious studies sounds like a jolly good time, come and heckle me!
The NAASR 2024 annual meeting starts in just one week! Join us next Friday in San Diego at 10:00am for the first of our four roundtables, Human/Subject/World!

And, don’t forget to join Saturday for the pre-meeting virtual program: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Stoked to be presenting in the Philosophy of Religions Unit at #AARSBL2024 #SBLAAR2024 #AARSBL in San Diego. Happy to connect with others, especially if you’re interested in religion, race, music, sound, affect or if you love hi-fives.

A non-alarmist friend of mine told me to make sure my passport is up-to-date in anticipation of the coming political season (if you get my drift). Woah. Shit. #realtalk

One of the happiest things for me since joining Bluesky is the excellent community of thinkers and writers who focus on religion. Ahead of #AARSBL and my trip to San Diego, a short 🧵about my acquiring interests for @uncpress.bsky.social #aar #aar24 /1

Let's talk about how to report on right-wingers without amplifying their hateful rhetoric. Far-right extremists count on YOU to spread their messages for them. Here's a thread of resources.
