This has nothing to do with our safety and everything to do with destroying our joy, our morale, and our community. This is white supremacy in action and we MUST fight it as best we can.

Rest in peace the brilliant Ralph Towner. His duo records with John Abercrombie (my teacher), and Gary Peacock are foundational for me, but his 90s solo album Ana remains my all time favorite

I, for one, welcome our new Monkey overlords
Multiple monkeys are on the loose in St. Louis, Missouri, according to local officials, who urged anyone who spotted one of the primates to report its location to the city’s animal control department.

We need to figure out how to fully support WNO in this very painful decision

I just watched the Rene Good video. Typing this through tears. This was murder, simple and plain. An American citizen, exercising her basic rights, imagine what they're doing to immigrants that we don't know about yet. Devastated.

Is that a tuba in aisle 3? Renegade brass band performs in bygone Lower East Side landmarks.

Killer list! That Joe Henderson record was a bible to many of my college buddies, and that Bennie Maupin is superb. I am working my way through your list, I already love the Lívia Mattos, looking forward to some more discoveries

When I was 12 or 13 I was told by some children & some adults, that Puerto Ricans did not have long hair, did not play electric guitar, and did not play Rock n Roll. They liked Freestyle, Salsa, or other types of dance music. Thank you Jose Feliciano for SHREDDING it up here, NO JIVE

And that's all she wrote folks! Feel free to tell me where you agree, or disagree. But preferably where you AGREE. Let's make 2026 great! We can do this! Because what other choice do we have after all?

May they all rest in peace, and more importantly, let's make sure we HONOR our heroes BEFORE they become our ancestors.
December 30, 2025 at 4:51 PM
Finally I need to acknowledge that 2025 was the sequel to 2016 - in that this was the year that so many of my heroes left us, I lost count. Roberta Flack, Roy Ayers, Sly Stone, Ozzy Osbourne, Eddie Palmieri, Steve Cropper, Hermeto Pascoal, Brian Wilson - it was brutal and relentless.

Best reissue of 2025 - David Bowie's I Can't Give Everything Away (2002–2016). With the tenth anniversary of his passing coming next week, and the end of this box set series, I believe this may be my final Bowie best of. Still, this music, his 21st C output, is so much better than people realize.
