This is scary because accomplishing a rewrite of a massive, very old legacy system that rapidly is incredibly high risk. This should be a multi year phased project in order to guarantee stability.

Fuck DOGE.

DOGE Plans to Rebuild SSA Code Base in Months, Risking Benefits and System Collapse
Social Security systems contain tens of millions of lines of code written in COBOL, an archaic programming language. Safely rewriting that code would take years—DOGE wants it done in months.

🧶 I have posted about this a ton recently, but I am really proud of it and it’s perfect for #ShowMeYourKnits color work week, so here it is again!

Inspired by my dog and the sea glass sweater.

I still have not woven in the ends…

🧶 The first sweater I ever knit was green! (…and a couple other colors… I don’t have many monochromatic knits 😅) #ShowMeYourKnits

A lot of the yarn I used in my #ScrapAlong2025 project was left over from this sweater.

Float Free, Bumblebee is the existence part of the proof of Theorem 4.4 from the 2022 JMA paper Carolyn Yackel and I wrote. The theorem classifies which two-color frieze groups are achievable in which directions in mosaic knitting. 🧶

🧶 Finished** my project for #ScrapAlong2025!

**Lots of ends to weave in and blocking left to do.

🧶 Excited about this week’s #ShowMeYourKnits because one of the first projects I ever did was a huge seed stitch blanket.

When I made this, I had not learned the importance of gauge swatching. I definitely did not mean to make a queen sized blanket! But it was a happy accident.

Always forgetting my 🧶
I got distracted by trying my hand at lace, but I’m back at my #ScrapAlong2025 project. Mr. Moose is complete!

I am thinking this will need to be a tee - it’ll be too warm to wear indoors otherwise. I’m also contemplating the body length; would it be better cropped or regular shirt length?

🧶 Getting close to being done with Mr. Moose’s portrait! Hopefully progress will really speed up after that. #ScrapAlong2025

Progress on my #ScrapAlong2025 🧶🐕 featuring my model, Moose. It kind of hurts my eyes to look at and I like that about it.

I may have to perform surgery to correct some tension issues in the Moose color work after I’m done.

This chaotic tangle is what I’m willing to put myself through to avoid weaving in ends or tying knots. 🧶 #ScrapAlong2025

Using old acrylics for my #ScrapAlong2025 project. 🧶

Inspired by Wool & Pine’s sea glass sweater, but not following a pattern.

Hey if anyone is considering backing up any datasets for some reason today, the Open Science Framework has free storage up to 5G/private repository, and up to 50G/public repository.

(The OSF is run by a 501c3 (Center for Open Science), so if you do this you might also consider making a donation.)

Thank you, I’ll have plenty! I used to crochet a long time ago and just started knitting a few weeks ago.

It’s been a great way to stop doomscrolling and reflect 😌

I’ve finished a Sophie scarf and have started a sweater. (I’m waiting for more purple yarn & am casting on a new cardigan as I wait 🫣)

Important context for the NASA anti-DEI email that is circulating (and perhaps other agency emails).
The heads of all agencies were required to send this message to the whole agency by 5pm today. It’s not just NASA. And the heads of the agencies didn’t get to alter the language.

Thank you forthe follows over here - and for the comments about my pattern sale donation to @aclu.org - which has grown to almost $2000 in less than 24 hours! Let’s keep it up and spread the word. Reading @apnews.com this AM was heartbreaking. It helps to do a thing to fight back.
