As you advance further in a decision-tree, fewer branches remain. It is possible to choose routes to maximize your future choices, but what if none of them are any good?

and now, we must carry on. not like it never happened, but with it in mind and considering the lessons it has taught. forming the future out of the past and present is all we can do.

Only one day until release. You'd best finish up any last-minute preparations.

Noise, noise, noise, noise. Everywhere is innundated with ads, with flashing lights, with all sorts of bullshit. How does one keep sane, other than closing the windows, drawing the blinds, and huddling on the floor? But then, how would you ever see anything again?

I feel remarkably calm for someone releasing a major product in a few days. Perhaps it doesn't quite feel "real" yet? Or perhaps I've well and truly accepted any outcome? We will have to see.

There truly is no end to work. So long as I draw breath, I will be building. It's all I know to do.

In observation of the fact that I have run the well of yapping about Kenoma: Action Without Action dry, why not just check it out? Maybe place it on your holiday lists (or steam wishlist), if it is not too late?

The first snowfall is here, finally. The herald of that destructive, desolate part of the cycle that nonetheless paves the way for new growth. I for one love the winter.

There is something in random noise that compels. Complexity beyond that of a human hand, intricate detail carved by nature through its wanton chaos. Even the false randomness of machines can stoke this.

now come the final checks, the last-minute tasks remembered in a haze, suddenly done in a flash of inspiration. hopefully no stone is left unturned.

It's important to remember that words like "cheesy", "schlocky", and "sophomoric" are all describing execution. No idea is inherently stupid and bad: anything can be done well. Example: The difference in emotion between Nine Inch Nails and Linkin Park in the 2000s was functionally nothing.

Character Spotlight: Destro, Secrets
Not everything is what it seems. So it is in life, so it is in fiction. You need deeper secrets and strange happenings for a fantasy to feel “real”. Plot alone is almost never enough. Video games...

Losing days to illness is, if you'll pardon the expression, horseshit. Why the fuck is this allowed?

naming things is too difficult. it is ever-tempting to adopt the aphex twin strategy of simply not doing it. not really, at least

the worst thing art can be is mediocre. a bad experience is better than something that leaves no impression at all. but you must always be earnest. making something bad on purpose leaves a deep stain that cannot be washed out.

Now is the arrangement. The assurance that everything is in its rightful place, not a hair out of line.

This week continues the month of character spotlights, but with a twist. Not only is there a character, but there is also a short exploration of meta-narrative in video games generally.

Character Spotlight: The Fates
It’s inevitable that any story written in this day and age has to contend with postmodern influences. The favorite form of this in the video game space is usually meta-narrative chicanery, explicitl.....

A tradition of posting video each Thursday pairing the opening of "Lucky Star" (Ordet, Encourage Films) with "Out of Touch" (Darryl Hall & John Oates) is strange. Nonetheless, it speaks to modern culture's unique relationship with art. We have probably seen more art than all our ancestors combined.

by using a delicate hammering and chiseling technique to open hard-crusted things (rocks, logs, particularly thick eggs) and get at the authorial intent within, i am always met with a meaningless powder

Fountain (R. Mutt) is likely to be my favorite sculpture, as someone who has little engagement with sculpture generally. Plain and obvious, has a kind of "dinge" to it. Perfect execution of its concept. No notes.

imprecision is the spice of life. cruft and strange ideas implemented in strange ways, confusing nonsense, this is what makes things interesting. why bother engaging with something entirely explicable?

Left, the Fool. Right, Great Edward. My initial design for the character of Great Edward was a giant floating face, based on that of Jim Morrison. Specifically as seen on the cover of L.A. Woman . I s...
