Someone outside this group posted the thought that thieves are assassins since they have the backstab ability by default. An assassin class early in the AD&D system offered slower advancement in exchange for combat-related benefits and a better chance to eliminate a target.

I'm thinking of writing up a PC/NPC rather sinister character class whose general purpose is to "eat magic," hunting spellcasters or magic beasts and slaying them to earn XPs and power up its own spellcasting ability. Any interest?
