Though we have been lucky here on the island with our weather. Certain areas that couldn't escape the recent drop in temperature. Late January, East Sooke, BC.

I am not accustomed to seeing frost accumulating like this. The crystals look beautiful in the early afternoon light ❄️✨️

" Outcrop "

Came across this vibrant clearing during my travels in the Sooke Wilderness Park trail. If it wasn't for the time I would have loved to set myself up to read here.

Perhaps when the sun graces us for longer I will return there to properly enjoy the space. It was an enticing spot 🪨✨️

Did some exploring in and around the Sooke Wilderness Trail this past weekend to make the most of the beautiful sunshine.

Taken along one of the side paths as I tried to naviagte on my way towards the summit. The moss blankets absolutely everything and I love how verdant it looks 🌱✨️

" Contours "

Unique stump I came across just off the trail in Sooke Wilderness Park, Sooke, BC. Late January 2026.

I love the natural striations of the various layers in trees. The way that this trunk has snapped off makes me think of the contour lines found in topographical maps 🗺✨️

It was gorgeous out today so I took full advantage of it and decided to hike through Sooke Potholes, Sooke, BC (late January 2026).

It is days like this that serve as a reminder to the splendor of spring. I am excited for the sun to bathe everything in warmth and radiance ☀️✨️

Experienced the bountiful Esquimalt Lagoon, Colwood, BC mid December 2025 with a friend and was able to capture this Western Sandpiper foraging amidst the tideline amongst many others.

The lagoon is a beautifully rich site for viewing a variety of shorebirds. It was busy that day 🦆✨️

" Peniflora "

Found this stunning set of roses while on a walk through the James Bay area, Victoria, BC. Early September 2025.

I'd seen them plenty of times but waited until they were both at the same stage of fullness in their bloom. The colours looked amazing in the light of the afternoon 🌹✨️

" Undergrowth "

Photo of a minuscule mushroom taken during a hike in Goldstream Park, BC early November 2025. I love how lively the underbrush is here. Even in the late onset of autumn there is a lot going on.

I would love to be able to identify the abundance of mushrooms found here 🍄✨️

" Token "

Snagged this photo of one of the many Rock Wrens that could be found amidst the various rock piles strewn about the quarry site outside Kaycee, Wyoming. Late August 2025.

They are quirky little guys that are always flitting about looking for bugs. I adore them for their "bobbing" 🐦✨️

" Schism "

Went on a hike to the Sooke Potholes, BC early January 2025, while there was a small break in the torrential downpour and found this unique cluster of mosses.

It really is amazing how many little marvels there are out there for us to witness if you take the moment to look 🌱✨️

" Archway "

Photo taken at the iconic Butchart Gardens, Victoria, BC, March 2025 while my grandma was paying me a visit.

Though not in full bloom it was a gorgeous park to visit, with lots to see and experience. It is great to see such a historical site has been preserved and so well maintained 💐✨️

" Atoll "

Went to Thetis Lake, BC over the last weekend to enjoy the beautiful sunshine & hike the trail. I'd brought along different hardware to familiarize myself with different scenarios.

I felt thoroughly enriched by the sights and sounds of the trail. I'll certainly be visiting again soon 🌲🌳✨️

" Apricate "

Photo of a Sagebrush Lizard taken out in the countryside of Kaycee, Wyoming while on a hike. August 2025.

These individuals weren't a frequent sight, and are quite skittish, especially when you lay eyes on them. However, I was determined and able to sneak up on this fellow 🦎✨️

" Manifold "

Photo taken in the Wyoming countryside out by Barnum, August 2025. The landscape out that way is remarkable.

Loved the diversity of colours and textures in this shot. It is so wonderful to think about all the different elements that make up our environment. Nature is amazing 🪨✨

" Nimble "

Ever elusive, I managed to snag this photo of a female Bushtit mere moments before it decided to take wing. James Bay area, Victoria, BC mid April 2025.

Though they're a fairly frequent sight in my travels, however, they flit about the most out of any bird I have observed 🪶✨️

" Lookout "

Picture of a handsome Belted Kingfisher, taken at Esquimalt Lagoon, Colwood, BC. Mid December 2025 on a uncharacteristically lovely day for the season.

I adore these birds for their colour and distinct eye "brow" spots. It has been a goal of mine to capture one in a photo for awhile 🐟✨️

" Ponder "

Captured a photo of this inquisitive soul mid September, 2025 in the James Bay area. They are one of many who have a tendency to wait for me.

It is a routine I had established after months of earning their trust with offerings of peanuts. Their presence is a highlight of my walks 🐦‍⬛✨
January 12, 2026 at 5:11 AM
" Gossamer "

Went for a hike today and stumbled across this beautiful spider web, nestled within a bed of moss and covered in rain drops. Sooke Potholes, Sooke, BC (2026).

I adore the threads that spiders weave, there is something utterly striking about them. They look like a cluster of bubbles 🫧✨

" Interlude "

After a multitude of attempts I was able to capture a photo of a Bewick's Wren as it paused momentarily in its foraging. James Bay area, late October 2025.

I have seen these little guys and gals on plenty of occasions prior but they are quite quick and never linger long 🌿✨

" Sentinel "

Managed to snap another photo of a male Northern Flicker as he and his mate were scouring the surrounding trees and shrubbery for morsels, late in the summer of 2025.

The sexual dimorphism between the two is something to behold, his partner was perched on a branch nearby 🌲✨️

" Vigil "

Captured this photo of a male Anna's Hummingbird in James Bay late September 2025 in the James Bay neighborhood.

Despite being such active creatures you can often see them taking roost in the numerous trees and shrubs if you know what to listen and look for. They can be hard to spot 👓✨️

" Florescence "

Came across this stunning rose while on a walk in the James Bay area late summer in 2025. So many folks have such beautifully cultivated gardens.

I am always grateful for our year round blooms and greenery, it helps to liven everything up while the sky's seem so heavy and gray 🌹✨️

" Leer "

Picture of a Sharp Shinned Hawk as they cast an intense gaze over the park at Fisherman's Wharf. Taken late March 2025 in James Bay, BC, Canada.

I'd spotted a couple of these hawks in a few fleeting moments within the same area. They have such a piercing stare 🗡✨️

" Respite "

One of the various female Anna's Hummingbirds' that grace my balcony and surrounding forests year round. Taken early May 2025.

They make frequent stops at my artificial feeder and flowering plants to feed. On occasion I find them roosting in the neighboring trees, but never for long 🌲✨️
January 5, 2026 at 5:46 AM
" Sentry "

Took this photo of a handsome male Northern Flicker as they perched in a distant tree in the summer of 2025 in Sooke, BC, Canada.

I am lucky to have observed a pair of them on numerous occasions in the neighboring trees and my balcony, where they come to refresh themselves 🪵✨️
