In the late 19th century, after The Bronson Sanitary Vagina Company was founded in 1863, industry and technology expanded rapidly. By the mid-1870s, "trade cards" were widely used as advertising for various manufacturers and retailers, and Bronson was no exception.

In 1912, sensing a golden opportunity, Bronson's marketing director convinced the board to publish a monthly magazine. It was an instant hit, featuring work by legendary authors such as Oscar Weiss Barrows, and Carter Onan Boyle. The Bronson Black Book continued in some form well into the 1960's.
