During the last ice age, ~25,000 to 15,000 yrs ago, the ice was kilometres thick. There were virtually no plants, no wildlife, and no soil. They have all come back since that time. It is pretty amazing. Check it out in "Wildlife, Landscapes, and Geology". buff.ly/Ma1xez1

Admirals Cave, Kangaroo Island, SA, is an old coastal cave, modified by waves from when sea level was higher, likely ~125,000 yrs ago. Lots of stalactites. Again, geology makes great landscapes. buff.ly/VObmodJ
