I live up to my bio
Just got done building the Lego Game Boy, pretty fun build that I would recommend for those wanting to kill a few hours and have a neat decoration.

Since we're approaching the end of 2025 I thought I would lay out plans for next year for FamiWiki, specifically some goals I want to achieve with the site. So here are 10 things I want to see improved to some degree.🧵

I would have loved to hear more people mention this before my Switch 2 screen scratched. I'm actually in the process of getting a replacement system cause said scratch is noticeable to my eyes.
So please spend an extra couple bucks (not sponsored) instead of a couple hundred like I am.
The Switch 2 comes with a thin plastic layer over the glass screen... this is NOT a screen protector. It WILL scratch!

Grab yourself a 3-pack for cheap on Amazon right now!
JSAUX: amzn.to/4qp9MLE #ad $7.49
amFilm: amzn.to/3WC04Ja $7.99

both brands are great

It's a Christmas miracle.
Merry Christmas 2025!

I ended up getting another game card case this Christmas, so now I can fit another 80 Switch cards which by the time I hit that limit we'll probably be out of the Switch 2 era of Nintendo.

Merry Christmas! If you'd like to spend 45 minutes celebrating video game history with me, we're about to debut The Untold Story of the Nintendo Entertainment System. I worked on his ALL YEAR, and I genuinely think it will reshape how we all think about the system. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJvp...

こんにちは、日本のファミコンプレイヤーの皆さん!
potential EME alert 🚨- apparently the Japanese are signing up to bluesky in droves. If you check the newskies feed 99% of posts are now Japanese

In 2019, a prototype ROM of this game was being auctioned in Japan and there was an attempt by western players to win and preserve the data. Unfortunately they were outbid by a Japanese collector who claimed that they only won the item in order to prevent "copy sales and dumps".

I found the worst baseball game. Major Dream: Major Wii: Perfect Closer is one of the most notorious video games ever released in Japan and there's more things wrong with it than you can imagine.

So I may have spoke too soon...
I couldn't help it, I was in the Phoenix area and took the opportunity to visit that Book-Off location. At least it was worth it!

I'm predicting in some eventual future that the term Metroidvania dies not because people stop using it, but rather Nintendo wanting to protect their Metroid trademark from being used in a genre name for things like marketing.
Probably won't stop nerds from using it though.
Who coined "Metroidvania"? It wasn't @jparish.bsky.social, and he'll be the first to tell you. Besides, there are far more interesting questions, like: How did it spread? Evolve? And what's it got to do with rickrolling?

Watch til the end for a post-credits sting.

Ah, the Mexican prototype forger returns! This is the latest in a series of similar forgeries that rip off game collectors around Mexico City. The scammer peels labels off retail games to make them kinda look like prototypes to the untrained eye. www.reddit.com/r/retrogamin...

Anyone else find it strange that we have not seen a single re-release of an older Bomberman game since 2017 for Wii U Virtual Console? It's especially strange that out of all the collections Konami has released in recent years none of them involve Bomberman, why is that?

This will likely be my final Famicom haul for the year, mostly boxed items with a few carts that I was missing.

This was especially apparent in the GameCenter CX episode for the game where Arino admits to not understanding what they're saying and wished a Japanese version was made.

I only watched the last hour of the 2025 Game Awards but that Mega Man announcement was so funny on my end cause I immediately called it at the music motif before any characters showed up on screen.
As for the rest of the announcements, meh.

December 8, 2025 was the day that the Oasis "online gaming platform" released in the Ready Player One universe.
Meanwhile in our universe, since March 2021 I have been active in an online platform thanks to VRChat which is actually the closest thing we are ever getting to that fictional concept.

I've been collecting retro video games for over a decade and only now do people realize folks in my generation got into this old stuff?
Was I ahead of the curve when I was a teenager? Cause I am certain there were other folks my age who have been appreciating this stuff for years.

This technically qualifies for Random Game Saturday, you're welcome.
The cartridge in question I was gonna trade-in. The store would have been cursed if they accepted it.
December 7, 2025 at 5:59 AM
I forgot it was GameStop trade anything day because I was gonna test to see if they would accept a JP Famicom cart. From what I heard you are usually not allowed to trade-in "import" games and it either must have an ESRB rating or have been released in North America. Guess I struck out...
