Been wondering why the news of Matt Gaetz's withdrawal put me in the best mood I've been in for two weeks. Then it occurred to me: Standards for acceptable behavior are being applied. I think we underestimate how destabilizing it is to live in a world where the constant message is: Nothing matters.

I have shared the same bathroom with Sarah McBride on several occasions, and she never once made me uncomfortable. She did however help me fix my makeup. That congresswoman knows how to blend her foundation, which is more than I can say about Donald Trump.

The only thing more horrific to me than having to endure another four-year reign of the most despicable human on the planet is having to live among the millions of people who are either foolish enough to be duped by one of the most blatant con artists of all time or apathetic enough to not care. 🧵

Ever since I joined Bluesky last week, I’ve had a song from my youth running through my head: “The Blue Sky” by a-ha (of “Take on Me” fame). There’s a line from it I’ve always loved: “I used to be confused, but now I just don’t know.” It just occurred to me that this could be our national slogan.

Update: As of about an hour ago, Tran has officially pulled ahead of Steel, by exactly 36 votes! He’s making progress with every new batch of ballots, so he would seem to be on a path to victory.
I supported Derek Tran as one of my “Fight for Five” House candidates. Together with the Human Rights Campaign AANHPI working group, we brought national attention and dollars to this race in CA-45 that everyone said was an uphill battle. But look where we are now! Go Derek!!

Just a thought I had today…Imagine you offered 100 people a choice: a ladder they could use to raise themselves up or a hammer they could use to beat others down. How many would choose the hammer? Based on our recent election results, I’m guessing about 51.

I *want* to be able to say that Senate Republicans have enough integrity not to vote for people like Tulsi Gabbard and Matt Gaetz… but I’d be a fool to ever bet on Republicans doing the right thing and rebuking the Godking.
