I've seen speculation it's about pumping up BTC$, but more likely a way to wipe out U.S. debt by devaluing the dollar, screwing over China, Japan, and U.S. bond holders. A financial reset like this would hit pensions and foreign creditors hard while letting the gov’t and insiders come out on top.
