Abruptly stopping one's anti-seizure meds is one of the most dangerous things that a person with #epilepsy can do. Yes, meds are an annoying aspect of the condition, but don't stop your anti-seizure meds even if you "feel better". #EpilepsyAwareness

Some uncomfortable aspects of #Epilepsy must be discussed. Sodium Valproate (i.e. Depakote) carries significant risks for women of child-bearing age. It is strongly linked to severe birth defects and developmental delays in children exposed in the womb. #EpilepsyAwareness

Don't be surprised if your doctor prescribes an anti-seizure med for another condition. Many "dual-purpose" meds can be prescribed for Bipolar Disorder, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Migraines, or Anxiety. -- Is your anti-seizure med often used for other conditions? #EpilepsyAwareness

MYTH: Only people with #Epilepsy can have a seizure.

TRUTH: Everyone has a seizure threshold. Certain triggers (like extreme sleep deprivation or illness) can lower it.

People with epilepsy just have a lower threshold.
