I hope 2026 is the year I can stop hearing about what did and didn't "age well". It's closer to my experience that we're just flying through the abyss anyway, nobody upstairs will pin a gold star on you for dying with clean hands.

Is it too late to say my favorite books from 2025?
1. Shadow Ticket by Thomas Pynchon
2. The Agonies by Ben Faulkner
3. Annihilation by Michel Houellbecq (was this published in 2025? Anyway I read it in 2025)

My first three books were works of philosophy. Each sold over 5,000 copies. In terms of philosophy that's a massive win. The last one sold mostly e-book versions. I work on various projects with varying levels of commitment because in the back of my mind I know it's not a merit based reward system.

My review of Pynchon's Shadow Ticket appears in Counterpunch this weekend. Check it out!

Editors at writers conferences: Too much head-hopping confuses readers. Keep perspective consistent.
Every teenager growing up on tiktok: Rapid shifting visuals, please! Or I lose interest, thanks!
Book publishers: RIP books. We cannot figure this out?!
Thomas Pynchon: Shadow Ticket, deal with it.

Oh, I've read them all before. This is for my son who is 14. I also started a Father Daughter book club where we are reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler... now, *that* is eerily on point. It takes place this year?! She wrote it in the mid'90's.
