I worked the 2019 Hearthstone Masters Tour in Bucharest, Romania. It's become a running gag in that group that I can never remember off-hand if I went to Bucharest or Budapest.

I have a friend named Erica, who I know more by her online name, which starts with "em". My mind _always_ defaults to "Emily" because the abstraction logic just trips up because of that.

I just spent 15 minutes trying to find Lutron Caseta switches by searching for Konica Minolta.

Random thing I've learned about how I think in recent years: my mind doesn't really do rote memorization, it almost always abstracts anything in memory by at least one level -- moreso as I've aged -- so recalling can occasionally be a challenge when I can't easily-reverse the abstraction.

Walk around Akihabara and see an "SOS" popup shop and think nothing of it for a minute, probably just another gacha.

Then I start hearing nostalgic music I recognize. (a regular occurrence here)

Ooooh, _that_ SOS.

Then I walk much more interestedly into the 20th Anniv. Haruhi Suzumiya popup shop.

Well, I'm randomly in the area while Spotlight Series Chiba is going on, so this album has some stuff from that.

...stuff from other things as well, but also that.

Updated throughout the next couple of weeks.

Run it Back

This is going to be an interesting show to broadcast, a lot of compressed schedules and new equipment. If all goes well, most of the graphics will be similar, but the broadcast will look decently-better.

This weekend has been a vibe. I don’t think I’ve ever said that about a travel show.

Need a temporary Raspberry Pi heatsink, so I'm just putting a small steel d20 on the SoC to get the job done...

Feels like companies are doing another "people have large screens so we can make are UI larger" enshittification. Noticed it with McDonald's app recently on a 15 Pro, and you can't easily get more than 3 Youtube videos to show up in a row now. Increase width? Bigger videos!...

There's a few videos going around right now about a Chinese EV that has a _ton_ of features and interesting tech.

There's good ideas interspersed, but I keep seeing it and going "that's a _lot_ of things on a car that can just break and become an expensive bill, or just brick the car outright".

Random Apple prediction: within the next few years, Apple will come out with a Thunderbolt PCIe expansion box.

A TB5 port can deliver equivalent bandwidth to PCIe 4.0x16 with some margin, and PCIe is 95% of the difference between the Studio and Pro.

Just got an upgraded keyboard (Keychron K4 v2->v3) and it's taking a while to get used to it.

Key layout is identical, but switches and keycaps are different. Same intended behavior, but sounds and feel is just that little bit different.

They also got rid of my preferred RGB effect...

Businesses putting something like "since 2005" in their logos or slogans makes me want to have a logo that goes "until 2035" and just see who it throws off.

Something UI-related about this site that bothers me: there's no tooltips on these buttons. It's making an assumption that the language of social media interaction is culturally-ingrained, which honestly feels like it makes adoption just that little bit harder.

This is incredibly smart by @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social, a lesson Democrats have to learn fast.

There will be no a-ha moment for the electorate. You can't wait around for people to realize how bad it is if they'll invariably wind up blaming the Reverse Vampires. You just have to fight, right now.

Something chuffs me these days in going to a site for an older client base that I can immediately-tell was made over 10 years ago.

Oh, you have a little visitor counter...

Oh, that page is auto-playing 90s pop music...

It hasn't been updated in 10 years...wait, the newsletter's current!

I travel for work and am functionally all over to USB-C. I bought a bunch of ~$40 USB-C and TB cables to bring exclusively, just to never have a cable compatibility issue.

Around me, people try to connect portable monitors, or hubs, and they can't easily tell they have an insufficient cable.

I am aware of the underlying-technological issues here (see www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-m_...) but I'm also very-accustomed to the system these days. But I remember my first international flight and it all being a big black box. It feels like it could be better, but I don't know a simple answer.

Landing in the US, I knew that I'd need to stop by a desk and pick up a ticket for the final leg, because apparently KLM can't print that specific pass. I also knew that basically entire digital system can break on me, but I need to trust that everything is fine.

(end sidenote)

My originating flight had a minor delay on a tight-ish international connection, which was bringing my stress levels up slightly, I couldn't imagine how stressed my friend would have been in the same situation.
