There's so much toxic positivity in Nintendo circles now. You can't express distaste or concern without being called miserable. Whether it’s Game Key-Cards or Prime 4 companions, so many people seem to take criticism of things they’ve bought or plan to buy as a personal attack.

Halo Campaign Evolved, ignoring the goofy name, kind of looks exactly as expected; typical UE noisiness and a lot of stuttering. I really hope the snippet we saw was Series X footage, the aggressive upscaling is rough. It does look better than Anniversary, but that's a low bar.

Dawn of Sorrow is a good game, but a notable letdown coming from its fantastic predecessor. As possibly the most paint-by-numbers Castlevania ever, it really seems to misunderstand what made Aria so great - falling short in far more areas than it improves.

Halo Anniversary's remastered visuals really are as bad as everyone says... There's a lot wrong with them but the lighting's undoubtedly the worst part. Dark and moody environments are instead swathed in blown out blues, and outside areas are bathed in an overwhelming orange. Yuck.

Really insane how expensive Overwatch skins are. The Persona skins are pretty cool but they are not worth anywhere £60 or £20 each.

The last six or so games I've played have had at least one Mercy with the Panther skin though. I guess they're this price because people pay. Crazy.

If it's genuinely just a remake with an extra side-story, and not some meta attempt at Danganronpa 4, Danganronpa 2x2 does not seem good.

The graphical fidelity might be higher, but it genuinely looks really amateur. Tweened animations and edge-lit sprites are not the move.

Replaying Hollow Knight has been really interesting; it's not really hitting the same for me this time.

Wondering how much of this is because I'm already familiar with the world and how much is just because I've just played more Metroidvanias to compare it to.

Might even be Metroidvania fatigue?

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 might have the strongest opening hook of any game I've ever played. It's a genuinely moving, tightly written introduction to the game's world and premise. What follows is, sadly, one of the most overrated and disappointing games I've ever played.

Feels like playing a game on release is basically beta testing nowadays. Good to know that I spent time playing an inferior version of the game & can't give it another shot without paying more (played through Game Pass).

Pleasantly surprised by Ender Lilies so far. I'm not a massive fan of the abstracted map as someone who usually obsesses over map completion, but I'm enjoying pretty much everything else about it. Potentially a contender for one of the best Metroidvanias?

Adventures of Elliot looks interesting but seems kind of messy visually. I thought I was just burnt out on HD-2D but then Octopath 0 came up and looked far better. I think It's mainly how detailed Elliot's 3D is. Octopath's is quite geometric so fits with the 2D spritework far better.

Recently wrapped up Crow Country. It's a great survival horror game with an exceptionally unique identity. It's campy, self-aware, and full of tongue-in-cheek nods to the genre's established conventions, but still creates real tension and emotional weight when it matters.

Bizarre. Clearly due to the UK OSA, but I've not seen this on any other social media platform so far.

Wonder if there's any genuine technical reason for this or if Bluesky just can't be bothered to properly moderate their chats for the newly age-restricted content.

Never thought I'd say this given I was so set on getting the Switch 2 at launch, but I ended up buying a second-hand Steam Deck just the other day.

Realised just how many games I have on Steam & just how much more I play and enjoy games when I don't have to commit to sitting at my desk.

It's impressive how almost every Final Fantasy game on modern consoles has at least 1 significant issue. 1-6 have stuttery scrolling, 7-9 have blurry backgrounds, 10 has downgraded face models and animation, 15 only runs at 60 in Lite mode, and 16's framerate is all over the place, even on PS5 Pro.

I know everyone else is already dunking on it but the iOS26 UI looks absolutely terrible. What were they cooking.

Switch 2 carts only being available in 64GB or as Game-key cards really sucks. I'd like to assume they'll add more sizes in future, but I doubt many publishers will care enough to do proper prints.

Between this and the new physical 'tax', Switch 2 is kind of a massive letdown.

Relevant again with Doom: The Dark Ages - it just got a hotfix that tweaked some values to make the game harder.

They’re welcome changes, imo, but you’re SOL if you don’t like them. Even if it were an update, you couldn’t revert to 1.0 since the disc contains basically no data.
Patches are great, but it's crazy that games can be fundamentally changed post-purchase. If something you love gets patched out, should you be able to get a refund?

Constant updates for single-player games also makes me hesitate to play them; I just want the best experience the first time around.

Finally finished Final Fantasy VII. Played most of it years ago but kind of ruined it by using battle boost. Gave it a proper playthrough this time and really liked it. It has its issues - the graphics and translation really do drag it down - but the themes it explores are incredibly compelling.

Finally enjoying Final Fantasy VII again now that I'm at Disc 3. Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but Disc 1 Midgar is by far the best part of the game and never really comes close to being topped until the climax of Disc 2, where you just so happen to go back to it.
