Woke up this morning and saw that my first Chrome extension has been published! I have been using it locally for a while now and figured I'd submit it for everyone else to use.

“Use your best judgment”
Extraordinary organizations have this is as their employee handbook. Resilient ones. Human ones that can thrive in the face of automation and AI. Organizations that are built on customer service, hospitality and flexibility. Of course, this means you'll need to treat your team with respect and offer them training and dignity. It means you won't be able to simply write down every single step in the manual, or work as fast as you can to replace people with uncaring software.

@bph.social came on the PublishPress podcast and we talked about the new Notes feature in WordPress 6.9.

The goal is Google Docs-style commenting. The first version of Notes is good, but it's going to get even better with WordPress 7.0 and other core releases next year.

@reutersinstitute.bsky.social 👋 I just had to manually go find your RSS feed (it's /rss.xml off your home domain). Could you please add it to the HTML head of your homepage so others can find it? Here's why that's important: werd.io/why-rss-matt...

All known PHP 8.5 incompatibilities in WordPress Core have been fixed for the @wordpress.org 6.9 release scheduled for December 2. This release will have "beta support" for PHP 8.5, which is just the label applied to PHP versions with less than 10% adoptions across all WP sites.

Life at Automattic: I will never stop learning.
One of the things that I discovered when I joined Automatic is that we have this amazing professional development benefit, and this covers a wide variety of things. There are courses and learn ups you can take within the company, you can expense books and learning courses. But the one thing that really, really worked or impacted, or benefited, or has benefited me over the last few years is our coaching benefit.

What’s new for developers? (October 2025)
21.6, 21.7, and 21.8 Gutenberg releases introduce features that expand WordPress capabilities for developers. The Command Palette now extends across the admin, the experimental Terms Query block simplifies taxonomy layouts, and Block Visibility controls enable conditional display. Notes (formerly Block Comments) mature for team collaboration, while content-only editing protects design integrity in client handoffs. WordPress Playground advances with an IDE-like interface and improved Blueprint functionality, setting the stage for WordPress 6.9.

They say AI will replace the web as we know it, and this time they mean it. Here follows a short list of previous times they also meant it, starting way back in 1997. Wired: March 1, 1997: “You can kiss your web browser goodbye” – Kevin Kelly and Gary Wolf, The Big Story. 1Inspired by the success of PointCast, a clever application that displayed news headlines as a screensaver, our "Push!" story argued that Web browsers were about to become obsolete.
