Canadians show up in the most curious of places!

I've been researching the often-forgotten British North Americans who fought in the Napoleonic Wars, uncovering the tale of John Charles Beckwith in the process. He lost his leg at Waterloo, but survived.

For Remembrance Day 2025, my photographer wife, Annie, and I travelled to Oromocto, N.B., to see how a military town pauses to honour service and sacrifice. This Legion Magazine feature is a combination of my words and her images.

Did you know that during WW II, Britain safeguarded its gold from a feared Nazi invasion—by shipping its entire reserves to Canada?

Here is the story, as told by Canadian author Ted Barris, in my latest Legion Magazine article.

George Beardshaw, 102, is the last known British Home Child. In 1938, he was sent to a Canadian household that mistreated him. Despite this, he still served his adopted nation in WWII. Read his tale in my Legion Magazine article.

My latest Legion Magazine story is a special one, an interview with 102-year-old Canadian WW II veteran George Beardshaw. Originally from Yorkshire, U.K., he is also thought to be the last living Home Child.

Thank you, sir, for your time - and service.
