University academic. When not doing my day job I'm interested in history, sailing, second world war, board games and fitness when my knee isn't faulty. General faffer.

Here's an idea: why don't we all stop killing each other?

I've started to notice a correlation between my anxiety about the world and the depth of history rabbit holes I go down.

Came across an old website yesterday, an audio project from 2005. It was a simply laid out piece of information, a bit of a logo, and some links to the relevant bits. It was marvellous and refreshing. I think this makes me an old man, but I am tired of having my retina burned out 24/7.

I am in a very comfortable position. And yet everything seems like utter toss. It is a problem.

Very difficult this morning not to think 'we are all doomed' and not in a cheery 'Dad's Army' British way but a real 'AI controllers are getting scary and the world is too hot' way.

"steel not flesh" and general different policy of warfare exhibited in the local stats. Having the big loco works produce tanks as well (Matilda II as exhibited at IMW North) clearly reduced overall casualties. Fascinating if still rather grim.

I am in Five Guys. I have never had Five Guys before (weeeyyy!). It is expensive. It is not very good. But now I know.

Had a hankering to go for a pint in city centre after work before I get my haircut. Wanted the kind of pub where you can smell the woodwork, yknow? City Arms in Manchester has not disappointed.

'Naive'. That's a crap word isn't it. Basically saying you're not experienced enough to know how things actually are. What bollocks.

Just had to put a weekly 'no meetings please' into my diary for the first time. Definitely drowning under the work at the moment but taking steps to fix it.

There's a V2 bus service in greater Manchester. I think I've been reading too much ww2 stuff....

How about a support group where you arrange to meet up somewhere with the express purpose of sitting apart and having time for yourself. The comfort of knowing you're not the only one needing solitude while also being alone.
