I just purchased a c1800 manuscript in Italian on the card game of piquet. It will take a while to make sense of it, but intriguingly it collates [A]^4 [B]^6 (B5+Χ^2) [C]-[D]^4.

My keyword searches on book sites turn up some interesting false positives. My "Hoyle" search just matched with some memorabilia for Hayley Mills, who charmed me in Pollyanna when I was (very, very) young.
