Hello World 😀 A bit late for 2025, but we're setting up here on Bluesky as we know there are quite a few writers here! We'd love to connect. For those who don't know us, Whitby Lit Fest launched in 2025, bringing a wonderful array of literary stars to Whitby.

For a long time, I've had an ambition to see one of my books on display in a big London bookshop.

My publisher just sent me this: The Hometown Bookshop in Hatchards Piccadilly! I'm over the moon and very grateful.

An ideal summer read with a bookshop/seaside setting. I absolutely loved it.

I'm greatly looking forward to the Phantom of the Opera being there, inside my bookshop.

Huge fan of #RossMackenzie delighted to find a copy “The Uninvited” in @bookcornershop.bsky.social

It’s cracking magical read, starting with a refugee crisis from a magical world into ours, it takes an a thrilling adventure where you can’t be sure who is good or bad, to get the Faerae home.

This is exciting! Today's (sort of) Book of the Day is Issue 1 of Transporter Magazine, a journal dedicated to new writing from Teesside. I have a short piece of fiction in it called 'The Dancer'. Call into Book Corner for your free copy!

Today's Book of the Day is GREENTEETH by Molly O'Neill. This cosy fantasy adventure is steeped in British folklore and myth, and I really enjoyed encountering the various mythical creatures, including the titular Jenny Greenteeth.

Today's Book of the Day is THE SECRET OF HAVEN POINT by Lisette Auton. This brilliant debut children's novel is about the Wrecklings, a group of disabled characters who live in and around a lighthouse on the North East coast. What happens when a.stranger arrives in their community?

Today's Book of the Day is MONSTERLAND by Nicholas Jubber. The author travels to various parts of the world, searching for the origins of famous monsters (Godzilla in Japan, Selkies in Scotland etc). He uncovers the often dark histories behind these tales. Highly recommended!

Book of the Day 3 is THE PERFECT GOLDEN CIRCLE by Benjamin Myers. A perfect novel for summer, it follows two friends as they roam the British countryside, creating elaborate crop circles under cover of night.

Come and meet Lisette Auton, who will be signing copies of her new children's novel, 'The Starlight Rebel', a sci-fi adventure full of heart. She'll be at Book Corner next Saturday, 26th July, 11am - 1pm.

Tomorrow!
Come and meet local author Mark Hadlett at Book Corner this Saturday (19th July). He'll be here from 11am - 1pm, signing copies of his new noir detective mystery, 'The Middlesbrough Merlin'.

Book of the Day 2 is THE ISLAND OF MISSING TREES by Elif Shafak. This beautiful, moving novel is partly narrated from the POV of a fig tree. It's a touching love story which deals with difficult subjects, including war, with great sensitivity.

I'm going to start a completely unoriginal feature called Book of the Day, where I recommend a book each day I'm in the bookshop.

Book of the Day 1 is The Deorhord by Hana Videen. Like animals and Old English words? Then this is the book for you! Absolutely fascinating.
