I got the best Christmas present. My wife BJ was declared cancer free by her doctors at the Miami Cancer Institute, after a year of chemo, Keytruda infusions, surgery and radiation for Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I hope you all get a gift that great at some point in your life. Merry Christmas!

Ron Lesser, a top illustration artist since the '60s, is still painting. Bill Cunningham and I are currently working with Ron on the third volume in THE ART OF RON LESSER book series (amzn.to/4dgRchX). It will showcase Ron's action/adventure paperback covers and some of his recent artwork like this.

New Essex House has been reprinting some classic, nearly forgotten counterculture novels from the ‘60s and ‘70s. One is Jane Gallion's novel STONED (amzn.to/4a5gqlt), first published in 1969. Kudos to NEH publisher Howard Griggs for bringing this underground erotic masterpiece back into the world.

Frank Loesser's song “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!” made that phrase famous. Few people knew he was quoting Lieutenant Howell Forgy, Chaplain of the USS New Orleans. Forgy said those words to his shipmates on December 7, 1941 during the surprise attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor.

From our anthology WEASELS RIPPED MY FLESH! (amzn.to/3Zps7Ow) …This story in MAN'S LIFE, June 1971 shows a guy being attacked by a pack of Javelinas. But the magazine editor who wrote the caption either didn't read the story or figured nobody would notice they weren’t “snarling, crazed foxes.” ;-)

RIP Tom Stoppard. I’ve been a fan of his since the ‘60s. I especially love his play ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD, later adapted into a great film starring Gary Oldman and Tim Roth, the movie SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, which he scripted, and the Terry Gilliam movie BRAZIL, which he co-wrote.
