The guard laughed as he retched. "Still thankful?" She said. Dimitri glowered at her. She recoiled before she managed to contain herself, and Dimitri wondered what she'd seen in his expression. Weak, Glenn said. Just letting them feed you. You should be fighting. No, his father said, and Dimitri looked at him, surprised he was disagreeing with Glenn. His father knelt down. He was surprisingly gentle as he stroked Dimitri's hair back from his face. Save your strength. Wait for the right moment. Dimitri nodded. His hair tumbled back into his face as he did. I will, he thought. His father smiled at him, proud as he hadn't been in years. And when that moment happens…tear them to pieces. "I will," Dimitri promised. "Who are you talking to?" the guard called. "Or did you fall asleep again? You're always raving like a madman in your sleep."

It's been a while since I've done a WIP Wednesday, huh? Here's something I'm poking at for the Blue Lions big bang. It's should be a fun one! 🧡💙
Felix reached into his jacket pocket and found a handkerchief. The scratch on Annette's face wasn't bleeding, but it was an unpleasant shade of red. It wouldn't hurt to press something cooling against it. He handed it to Annette. She took it, surprised. "Looks painful"" Felix said. "Maybe you should be in the infirmary, not me." Annette looked at the handkerchief for a moment, her lips parted slightly. Then she balled it up in one fist, her lips twisting into a scowl. She glared up at Felix. "Are you making fun of me?" she asked. "What?" Felix said. "No. Why would I be -" "You think I can't walk anywhere without knocking over a bunch of boxes, and everyone's staring at my stupid scratches on my stupid face?" Annette said. "Your face isn't stupid," Felix cut in, but Annette didn't seem to notice. "And now they'll stare at your stupid handkerchief," she added. "They'll say, wow, Annette can't do anything right. She can't even walk down the hallway without messing something up. Is that what you think?" Felix looked around the hallway, but the boxes didn't bother to offer him any help. He took a step back, looking over his shoulder. No help around the corner, either. "I have to go," he said. "The professor. Meeting. Bye."

Another little snippet for the Blue Lion Big Bang 💙

it's her time 👁️👁️
“No.” Her eyes flicked down to the ground, then back up to meet his meet directly. “It’s not the same. By myself.” It struck Dimitri then, that he had never seen her with anyone else since coming to Fhirdiad. The Blade Breaker and his crew were travelling western Faerghus, contracted to help rebuild. Shez was in charge of the army stationed along the tenuous imperial border. Even Dedue, quiet and devoted as he was, had been known to walk through the gardens with Mercedes or take a meal with Sylvain. But who sought the company of the Ashen Demon? She followed the king silently through the halls of Castle Blaiddyd, and vanished without a trace when her duty came to an end. There was an empty ache in his chest. If he’d ever stopped the consider the situation, Dimitri would have assumed the heartless Demon preferred life that way. But looking now upon her frown… “Then would you care to join me for a cup of tea?” he asked on impulse. Byleth blinked twice, rapidly. Another subtle display of emotion, perhaps? Dimitri wondered how many others he’d missed. “You would be doing me a favour, Sir Byleth. I am supposed to be resting, after all.”

I've been posting a LOT about Ashe-related things and I think it's because some Ashe merch arrived recently, but also because of my blbb fic.

This is the first time I'm writing a Blue Lions fic that is from Ashe's POV and is completely Ashe-centric and I am having a very excellent time.

Happy WIP Wednesday! A snippet from my BLBB fic featuring asheleth, where nothing bad will happen ever...right??
Byleth looked up at him, her head tilted with curiosity. “Why do you like this part so much?” “Well, you see, the Luna Knight is valiant and brave, and she has the kind of personality that gets people to trust her,” Ashe explained. “And the way she inspires people and brings them together, even people who doubted her at first, is really incredible to read about.” Byleth watched him as he spoke, absorbing every word. Her eyes seemed to see right into him, into the heart of the place from which his admiration overflowed. They were the same eyes that gave her the steady presence that held a nervous academy class together on the battlefield and reunited their fractured house on the front lines of the war. “Actually, she reminds me of you,” he said, touching her hand where it rested on the page. Did the Luna Knight have the same quiet authority that exuded from Byleth’s attentive gaze? “Maybe that’s why I like that part so much.” A rare blush dusted her cheeks. “Is that so?” “Yes,” he said, letting his thumb linger on the calluses of her sword hand. “Lonato used to read the Luna Knight’s story to me all the time. I wanted to be just like her.” Byleth smiled. “You are just like her. More than I am.” Ashe’s face grew warm at her underserved praise. “I-I’m not so sure about that,” he protested. “I’m not brave like she was, and I’m nowhere near as strong—” “You are my knight,” she said simply. “When I read this book, I think of you.” “Y-You do?”

“There’s no way to get past them.” Felix whispers to his companion. The guards haven’t noticed them yet, but it won’t remain this way for long as there is only one way through. It’s comforting to know that the world may fall into ruin, but some lords still care about border control. “There’s only two of them. We could knock them out.” “Must we brute force our way through everything?” Felix doesn’t miss the irony of the statement, coming from him of all people. “Call that a plan B, then.”

Felix eyed him, his frown deepening. “Boar,” he said by way of greeting. “You look terrible.” “Good morning to you too.” “When was the last time you slept?” Felix barrelled on, undaunted. He didn’t bother waiting for an answer before turning his attention on Dedue. “Did he even go to bed last night?” “His Majesty remained in his office all night,” Dedue answered without hesitation. “I do not believe he slept at all.” Dimitri tried not to sigh as Felix launched into a rant. He was happy that two of his closest friends now got along. Truly! However, he dearly wished that their comradery would focus on anything other than badgering him. On the other side of Felix, Sylvain grinned. “If you’re going to stay up all night anyway, you might as well find a more…pleasant way to pass your time,” he said, speaking over Felix’s lecture. Sylvain looked back at the knight trailing them. “Don’t you agree, Sir Byleth?”

#wipwednesday because i know it's still wednesday in the west so this is totally fair game: have some dimilix from my blbb fic :--)
As the young prince, Dimitri was saddled with royal classes and training. After the Tragedy of Duscur and the subsequent death of his father, the king, the workload only doubled, and his attachment to food was all but severed. He would forget to eat, or rest, and Felix remembers their days in the monastery, how he hears his retainer beg Dimitri to do either lest he collapses. The military would love that, Felix thinks. A soldier who is peerless in combat and needs little to no resources. And yet, it’s unfortunate, the creature Dimitri has become. “Your memory is as sharp as ever,” Dimitri concedes. “At the very least, I am not a picky eater, unlike you. You used to pawn off your vegetables to me whenever you had the chance.” “So you remember. Maybe you’re still human deep inside after all.” Felix plays it off sarcastically, but he is relieved Dimitri can still find it in himself to banter.
