Okay, so Canada and the EU have pivoted toward trade agreements with India and China, avoiding the US and our bombastic president. The right is about to learn what the rest of us already know: Trump is a disaster when it comes to deal making. The worst! And guess who gets to pay for his losses?

No matter how many more armed men Trump sends to impose his will on the people of Minnesota, all he can do is accentuate their valor. No application of armed violence can make the men with guns as heroic as the people who choose to stand in their path with empty hands in defense of their neighbors.

In an exercise in roll reversal, how would you feel if heavily armed masked Black men in camo stormed your car, pulled you out and threw you onto the pavement? Citizen? Where are your papers. Not a question; more of a taunt. The only thing that matters is the color of your skin. White? Guilty!

It is no stretch to say the right would have lost its collective mind if Biden had mixed up—repeatedly—mixed up Iceland and Greenland. The perpetually pissy WH press secretary huffed that Trump didn’t get anything mixed up—the reporter did. I really miss civility. And normalcy. What a clown show.

Populism is the ideology of those who feel betrayed. Contempt for “insiders” rises, as does suspicion toward anybody who holds authority. People are drawn to leaders who use the language of menace and threat, who tell group-versus-group power narratives.
