I won a competition in the Eighties. I won a ‘Brain of Morbius’ VHS for doing a Dalek voice over the phone. I honestly did 😁 I think I held my nose, as I thought it would sound more like one. I am still very proud of this fact 😂

A Happy New Year! There is a glow of cheer and optimism in the very words "New Year." The old year, with its anxieties and worries, is over. It too brought happy days and sunshine, and in memory we must cherish the bright places.

Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself.

@paulmagrs.bsky.social wrote a lovely book about a young boy who wins a competition to meet David Bowie at a screening of Labyrinth. It’s magical and heartwarming. I am so happy it has now been adapted into a radio play and is on BBC Radio 4 08 January 2026 at 14.15pm.

One of my fave things this year was getting to join in with Big Finish on stage at Big Finish Day in Robert Valentine’s ‘The Stuff of Legend’ reading Charlie. You just never think you would ever do something like that, it was a really great experience and something to always remember.

Sapphire and Steel is one of my favourite TV programmes, starring David McCallum as Steel and Joanna Lumley as Sapphire. It ran from 1979 to 1982 on ITV and was created by Peter J. Hammond under the working title ‘The Time Menders’, after he stayed in a supposedly haunted castle.
