In Baltimore City, MD: Sad pup suffers partial loss of ear due to severe fly strike - BARCS, Baltimore MD

Buster Scruggs- 4 years old, unaltered male, 34 lbs

Animal control officers were alerted for a extremely think dog in a pen behind a lot. When they approached the dog, they could see his hips, ribs, spine and a severe fly infestation. He was also bleeding from his ears. There were 2 other dogs on the property, as well. Officers knocked on the trailer door but did not get a response. The property was in terrible condition with at least 10 dog crates scattered around, piles of feces and unclean water. Another dog was then found in a crate inside of the garage with no water, flooring or airflow. All of the dogs were removed from the property and transported to the shelter for further care.

Buster Scruggs was among these dogs and is now seeking a cozy home. On his initial medical exam, he presented with severe fly strike, a missing part of his ear, otitis, dermatitis and fleas. He is currently being treated and a full medical summary can be provided upon request.

When tested with other dogs, Buster was a but under-socialized. He was tense, avoidant and sniffed around the area but did participate in some play. He did do a bit of mounting which was hard to steer.

Pacqui 1 + 2- premature kittens

Pacqui 1 - female, 0.18 lbs

Pacqui 2 - male, 0.18 lbs

Pacqui 1 and 2 arrived at the shelter with 3 other kittens who sadly passed away. Upon examination our vets noted both kittens to be premature with umbilical stumps attached. One of the kittens is too cold to register on the thermometer and the other was warm enough to feed. We do not have an incubator to send out with a foster that reaches 92 degrees, which is the temperature they currently need. Due to this, we are seeking urgent placement. They are still very touch and go and may not survive, but we are hoping to find someone who can give them a chance.

Pacqui 1 + 2 are available immediately for rescue pick up.

Meet Cesear! Cesear is an exuberant and energetic pup who is looking for a dog savvy adopter. He is very treat motivated and loves to engage in training games. He learns things very quickly and would do best in a home with structure and somebody willing to work with him on his manners. This guy has lots of energy to burn and would love to have a yard that he can run and play in, although not required, there are plenty of other outlets and ways to meet his energy needs such as long hikes, swims, and adventures! Cesear will for sure be worth it once he is out of the shelter and has a more structed lifestyle. As the shelter, Cesear has been around other dogs and has a rough/rowdy play style and may need some management when playing with other dogs but with the perfect match he could do well! Cesear has demonstrated some jumpy/mouthy behaviors but has been quite the quick learner in regards to what behaviors are and aren’t acceptable. He really is the best boy who just needs out of the shelter. The kennel life is taking a toll on Cesear quickly and we’d love to get him out asap. He is available for rescue, foster or adoption!

In Baltimore City, MD: 12 y/o sweetheart senior returned to BARCS after his beloved owner passed suddenly/unexpectedly - BARCS, Baltimore MD

Mick- 12 y/o, altered male, 6lbs

Handsome Mick was adopted from BARCS in 2016, and at 12-years-old, he found himself back in our care after his beloved owner suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. What should be his golden years spent in the comfort of his own home are now completely changed.

Despite the tragedy he's been through, Mick is a total lover boy who gives face kisses & head bonks, and purrs when you pet him. Although his life has changed so quickly, we can tell his heart is still open and ready to find love again.

Upon examination, our vets noted that Mick is underweight- having lost more than 50% of his body weight since 2016. He also has dental disease, soft/fluctuant dermal masses on his left upper lip and chin, and he is hyperthyroid with an elevated T4, so was started on meds. He is also being treated for diarrhea.

No senior should spend their days in a shelter an sweet Mick here is no exception. He is available immediately for rescue pick-up.

Helga🐾🐾 is a beautiful metallic copper color that you don't see very often. Because of the sparkle in her coat, she doesn't photograph as pretty as she really is. Helga🐾🐾 has been spending time in a foster home and her foster family thinks she’s a doll. She is housetrained, crate trained, very playful, great meeting new people and even enjoys bath time!! Helga🐾🐾 is affectionate, loves her toys and she LOVES to play fetch.

Simon- 8 y/o, altered male, 19lbs

Handsome Simon is an 8-year-old charmer who was recently surrendered to the shelter, and now this loving, playful, and outgoing boy is ready to find his new home.

Simon loves lounging in the living room, chasing bugs (his favorite hobby!), and curling up for cozy cuddle sessions. He previously lived peacefully with both a dog and another cat, and did great with them—he’s a true social butterfly at heart.

While he can be a little timid around children, he does just fine with calm, respectful kiddos who give him space when he needs it.

Simon was surrendered because his owner reported that he was urinating outside of the litterbox despite having three boxes (cleaned daily) for two cats in the household. Both a U/A and bloodwork done in the shelter were overall unremarkable, and s far in our care, Simon has been consistently using his litterbox.

Although Simon may be a senior, but he’s got plenty of spark and affection to share. If you’re looking for a loyal, easygoing companion with a big heart and a playful side, Simon is your guy.

Simon is available immediately for rescue pick-up, and at nearly 20lbs, we'd love to get this guy out of a kennel and into a home!
