Regional birder, VC37, VC38 and VC39. Love birding the mighty Blithers and Cannock Chase. Bird sightings only, NO info on breeding or sensitive wintering birds. NO Plastic poultry, Storks, ect, ect.
Four Whooper swans were new for the day, the f/w drake Scaup was still present. Good numbers of dabbling ducks were noted in Tad Bay with 800+ Teal and ca 340 Wigion present. 10 Crossbill were seen over Duckley Plantation. With MDJ.

Yet another Scaup this morning this time a first winter drake my sixth of the Autumn and the most since the 16 in 2012. Only other birds of note were 6+ Pintail.

Only birds of note this morning were two female Scaup, presumably new birds as it's nearly a month since the last ones. Duck numbers have risen with the water level, 5-600 Teal and over 300 Wigeon were noted plus 1 Pintail, 11 Goldeneye, 4 Pochard, 25 Mute Swan and 9 Shelduck. No waders.

Main highlight of this morning were seven Whooper swans (six adults and one juvenile) which dropped in the Deep End. Only other birds of note were 2 Ruff and 2 Great-white egrets. With M.P.R.

The only highlight this morning was my latest ever Swallow in Britain beating my previous latest record ( Blithfield 28/10/1989 ) by eleven days.

A new immature Scaup was the main highlight today with three adult Whooper swans, 4 Pintail, White-rumped sandpiper and Wheatear also present. Also good movement of Redwings and Fieldfare.

It's not often I see two seconds for Blithfield in a day but today I did in the form of a fly over Woodlark and the still present White-rumped sandpiper.

Another cracking Saturday morning with MPR. Started of with a Spoonbill then Blithfield`s second White-rumped sandpiper also a Knot flew through backed up with Black-necked grebe and 7 Ruff.

Some really bad record shots of the Common Scoters at Blithers this morning, part of a movement through the greater midlands. Not much else, 7 Ruff, Common Sand and first sign of winter thrushes moving north.

An exciting if frustrating first hour with distant views of Blithers 11th Leach's petrel (1st since 18/10/2006) also Black-necked grebe and Rock pipit. With MPR.

Hard work this morning with only new birds 2+ Curlew sands, Dunlin c10, Ringed plover c90, Bar-tailed and Black-tailed godwits, Greenshank, Redshank 3 and Ruff 4+. More Hirundines than in recent days. 3+ Wheatear still.

With the recent arrival of Curlew sands in the region I decided to sort through my notebooks to find the biggest flock I'd seen and came up with 31 on 31/08/1975. I remember as if it was yesterday sitting with Tony Blake and his wife watching them come in from the North.

Quick look this afternoon produced a juvenile Arctic tern, 2 Black terns and 5 Curlew sands, 96 Ringies and c20 Yellow wags.

Good selection of waders this morning with Bar-tailed godwit being the star bird, also 7+ Curlew sand, Wood and Green sands, Greenshank, Blackwit, and Ruff. Still 2 Black tern and a late Swift down the Deep End. With MPR.

Nice couple of juvenile Wood sands this morning (found by MPR) the first for two years also ca17 Curlew sands, ca10 Black terns plus the usual Blackwits,Greenshank, ect ect.

I thought the days of large flocks of Arctic waders were over but the 13 Curlew Sandpipers today at Blithfield put a stop to that at least the short term. It was the best count since the same sized flock on 29/08/2010.

Cracking morning at Blithers, main highlight was a large movement of 240+ Ringed Plover from 06.30 to 10.30 hrs. and a brief visit of a Curlew Sandpiper, other birds noted were a fly through Turnstone and a female Marsh Harrier moving north east. With MPR.

We didn`t see the Curlew sandpiper this morning but did record my joint second highest flock of Crossbill (12). with MDJ.
